I am a Stanford and Harvard trained economics professor at Boston College on leave for the 2021-2022 school year. I am well-versed in test-taking strategies, but more importantly I pride myself in helping students develop a deep understanding of fundamental mathematics, economics, and/or statistics concepts. My college-level teaching includes honors microeconomic theory, principles of macroeconomics, health economics, and game theory. I would love to work with you to create an individualized learning plan, help you overcome any obstacles to your learning, and impart some of the joy I find in these subjects.

Economics is at its core a discipline of applied mathematics, and my PhD training in economics (as well as several years teaching both at the undergraduate and graduate levels) gives me not just facility with a range of math subjects, but also a rare depth of mathematical understanding. I can help students learn not just the math concepts they need, but how those concepts fit together into a unified whole, as well as how they are used in economic settings. My focus is not on memorization (though some memorization is unavoidable), but on helping students understand the *why* behind economic, mathematical, and statistical techniques and results.

Great teacher and amazing value

Sam assisted my son in an excruciatingly difficult, quantitative microeconomics course. Several other students were dropping the course or flunking. My son would end his sessions with Sam, energized about the progress made and eventually went on to achieve his best scores. Sam is a great teacher of difficult concepts, was patient, flexible and positive. It’s the best money I ever spent on college thus far!

Kind, smart and helpful

I worked on an econometrics practice set with him. Sam had a complete understanding of everything I needed to learn and explained it in an easily understandable way.

Sam made Game Theory fun!

I had an enjoyable time working with Sam this semester as I took my first deep dive into Game Theory. He was patient, knowledgeable, and thorough. It would be awesome to have him as a professor one day!

Knowledgable and patient tutor

Sam did a fantastic job of explaining economics topics in a way that made the material accessible to me which improved my confidence to approach the material in my course. Highly recommended for struggling students.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

I really appreciated Sam's support today. I felt embarrassed at the start of the session given the gaps in my background knowledge to tackle this problem set, but Sam made me feel at ease to ask any question, no matter how rudimentary it may have sounded. His "wait time" during the session pushed me to take the lead with sharing my thought process, and that challenged put contextualize these problems with the goals of the course at-large.

Superb Tutor!

He is very knowledgable tutor. Given my extremely busy schedule, he was able to get his point across efficiently, which mattered a lot. He cares a lot about thought process and makes you walk through any problems and critiques the thought process along the way. This method has paid a lot of dividends when I took exams. Overall an excellent tutor who I will also be using to help me with my GRE.

Patient and very knowledgeable tutor

Sam was able to help me super last-minute for my stats analysis exam and knew how to explain not only how to solve problems, but the theory behind them. This helped a lot as a my exam was half theoretical, half problem solving. I was so stressed about the exam and I felt a lot more confident after our lesson. Thanks Sam!

Very nice guy and knowledgeable tutor

Sam has helped me accomplish weeks of work in just hours. If you are in a crunch or have fallen behind on schoolwork Sam can help you understand what you need to do in a clear and concise manner. Sam is also very nice and willing to go the extra mile for his clients.
