I'm Sasha, and I am pursuing a degree in Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley! Although I love learning, nothing gives me more joy than mentoring younger scholars and seeing them succeed. I aim to empower students' learning and give them skills to help them for the rest of their lives. I have a year of tutoring experience teaching programming to high school students through weekly one-on-one sessions. In this format, I can see and adjust a student's thought process and explore the "whys" and "hows" that may not be encountered in a typical programming course. In addition to teaching syntax, I focus on critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
I also have experience teaching younger children. Through my volunteering with Girls Who Code, I introduced students from 6 elementary schools and 3 middle schools to block coding for controlling robots and drones. I work with small groups of 4-5 students, helping them fix and understand their bugs without directly stating the solution. I strongly believe that the most effective way to teach is through interactive, hands-on activities, where students arrive at a solution through their own reasoning.
I specialize in Python, but I can teach Java and Swift as well. Additionally, I am interested in teaching math at any level through single-variable calculus. I am also open to opportunities in SAT tutoring and college counseling: I scored 1590 through a rigorous self-imposed study plan and was accepted to numerous prestigious institutions like UC Berkeley, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
