When I began tutoring a few years ago, I firmly believed that anyone could do well in mathematics, all the way through Calculus, provided you are relatively fluent in a few formulas and make time for regular problem sets. When I began tutoring a few years ago, I firmly believed that anyone could do well in mathematics, all the way through Calculus, provided you are relatively fluent in a few formulas and make time for regular problem sets. My experience over that time has only confirmed my suspicions, and its has been a great pleasure to work with many of my students. I have always found joy in getting to the point of a big concept and keeping the focus on the purposeful real-world applications that many of my students' math problems lead to. I think that is why I have been so successful at connecting with a variety of students, and why they have enjoyed working with me. We all agree that math can become boring, but that it really does not have to be.
There are no boring subjects, only boring people. I finished a Master's in Statistics two years ago at CSUEB and work on Finance research and Data Science projects when not tutoring. They are very exciting spaces to be in right now due the new explosive capabilities in stats online and allow for an enormous amount of new discovery. Having previously been an honor student in math, I had to do my fair share of brushing up when going back to school, but still did exceptionally well. Compound that with being an ADHD student my entire academic career, and I feel I have a human element to me that makes me a very understanding academic coach. I have now had success working with students in middle school, high school, and college students. I have also worked with older students returning to school after years away. I have worked with top level advanced students seeking a deeper understanding as well as struggling and ADHD students. As an ADHD myself, I am personally very passionate about working with this group. I have developed several behavioral skillsets that work great for us ADHD creative geniuses. ADHD is not a learning disorder. When not acknowledged, it can definitely hold you back, but once you are conscious of how it affects your short term learning processes, it becomes an enormous asset and unlocks huge visual and creative capabilities.
My teaching is very conversational and interactive. Philosophically, I view tutoring as an interactive coaching experience. I focus on intimate discussions of conceptual learning as well as problem solving and test taking behaviors. These are the very things that a lecture or class cannot shove down a student's throat, yet are vital to long term success. I have gone through training at one of the top corporate test prep companies, and know their standards well, but this is not the right approach to education. Tutors need to have a more holistic view of the individual they are focusing on. We need to breed conceptual independent thinking, creativity, and confidence. These good habits will stick an entire academic career.
If you share a similar outlook to education, please contact me to see if I can help. My first sessions are a team effort with both students and parents, and help lay the groundwork for fundamental success. I keep in regular touch with parents on feedback and give deep explanations of what is going on.
Kind regards and good luck!

Excellent At Analyzing Root of Problems
We just had our second session with Charles and I'm even more impressed with his easy-going manner, his initiative to come up with lesson material at the end of summer/before school has started, and most importantly discovering where my son is getting hung up with his understanding of math concepts. Thanks so much Charles!Carol, 5 lessons with Charles
Learned a lot!
We went over Linear/nonlinear convergent divergent series and infinite sums etc... Equations of circles parabolas and hyperabolas. Note, Charles is very good at explaining things like asymptotes for rational function, helps you visualize where they would be on a graph without needing to see the graph, and how to identify common mistakes people make, not just for the previously mentioned but for pretty much anything.Matt, 17 lessons with Charles
Very patient tutor
My 12 year old son has been working with Charles for a few months now learning how to organize his thoughts and create high quality work in writing and math. Our son enjoys working with Charles and has incorporated a lot of his suggestions into his work. His writing has improved and his math work has become more organized and easier to follow.Liane, 18 lessons with Charles
Great tutor for my middle school son
We are really enjoying and impressed with the relationship Charles and our son are developing. Charles has a unique way of empowering our son to want to do his best and do it the "smart" way. Charles has given him tricks on how to study for tests and how to check his work. The tricks are practical and easy for him to understand and practice. Charles has a unique way of talking to both of our sons, in a way that is not intimidating but engaging. They want to talk to Charles about what they are studying and tell him how they are doing in school. We are really grateful that Charles is helping our son.Tina, 29 lessons with Charles

Very highly qualified and patient.
Charles helped me review everything from limits, to natural logs, to various types of differentiating equations. He combined a use of intuitive learning with detailed examples and practice problems to illustrate his point.Devin, 2 lessons with Charles
