Santa Clara University Teacher Credential Program (Graduate Coursework)
Tutoring is an act of observation. It succeeds where normal instruction fails because it is geared toward a student's particular strengths. My best experiences as a tutor have been with the students who needed me most, learning how they needed to learn. I have been a tutor in one setting or another since childhood.
As an undergraduate I was a teacher's assistant in English, German and Astronomy, a grader in Calculus and a tutor in Physics for scientists and engineers. I have continued to tutor Physics and Math ever since, including during my brief stint in the Santa Clara Teacher Credentialing program.
I make an effort to be welcoming to people of all backgrounds. Education needs to be a place of safety.
I am willing to discuss rate adjustment in person with those who can demonstrate need. Tutoring is an act of observation. It's taken me awhile to write the review, but here it is. Francesca was incredibly helpful and her love of physics is quite contagious, so beware! I ended up with a B in my class though my goal was to earn a C. I was ecstatic with a B. I am a returning student and having to go back to school was a big shock to my system. I was getting so behind in Physics and Francesca gave me the motivation to keep going. This was the first time I have paid for a tutor, and having a tutor in general turned out to be a good idea because I had someone that I could be accountable to. I also looked forward to having her explain the chapters after I read them. My teacher wasn't that good at explaining in a way I could understand. Thank you for all your help, Francesca!!
My daughter has worked with Francesca twice for Chemistry. She said she learned more in 3 hours than she did all semester from her High School teacher. Thank you for taking the stress out of Chemistry!
Francesca is helping my daughter with Honors Geometry and Honors Chemistry. She is patient, thorough and has the great ability to break problems to help my daughter better understand what is needed to find the solutions. We are very pleased with Francesca and look always forward to our next session.
Francesca was wonderful with my very shy son. She helped him study for is first physics final...hopefully he will do well. She is kind and patient. One can also tell she is very passionate about physics. All during my son's session she took notes and emailed them to us for his review. She also offered to answer any physics related questions after his lesson. Francesca also provided my son with basic test taking tips as well. I plan to set up more sessions to make sure my son does not fall behind.
My son really liked her in the first class. After knowing our plans for my son she immediately suggested a plan on what he needs to focus on and her plan on tutoring. Very knowledgeable.
Francesca is easily the best tutor I've had, makes the information digestible and has the patience to help students succeed. Very personable, down to earth, and not a robot. One of the most articulate people I've ever met :)
Fantastic, patient, responsive physics master. Francesca has a width-depth understanding of all aspects of modern physics and happily brings students together with the material.
Francesca has a way of making a problem that looks super complicated into the simplest problem! Her notes are easy to understand and so helpful!
Francesca helped me to study for the SAT exam. She gave me some really great advice, and she was very encouraging. She explained things very well, and helped me to identify areas where I needed to strengthen my skills. She gave me the tools to help me build up those strengths. She had a great sense of humor and was very comfortable to work with.
I will defiantly keep her as my go to for the crazy fun works of math. Please she's very flexible with hours which is great for a single mom going back to school.
Fantastic teacher, patient and understanding. I want to retain her for Nathan's last year of high school. He will be taking pre calculus and dye is b
The best one to guide him through the class.
I wish we had found Francesca sooner! My son struggled with understanding math and connecting with his teacher for most of the year. Francesca made an instant connection and taught in a way my son could relate too. He went from an F on a test to an A on his very next test after just two sessions with Francesca! Amazing!
Francesca is very patient . She got to the root of the problem and started to work on it . My daughter is improving at understanding the problems . She needs more practice and I think giving her homework is working ! My daughter likes Francesca . Her grade has improved from F to D .
Francesca was a very nice, intelligent tutor. Unfortunately we weren't able to get on the same page with each other. Her style of teaching wasn't quite what I needed and it was difficult to understand compared to how I was being taught in class. But that has nothing to do with her and her knowledge of what she was trying to teach. She is a very knowledgeable person and knew what she was doing and talking about, it was just not on the same level as what I needed.
Francesca was very knowledgeable and patient. She was also very flexible and available the times I needed. I would highly recommend.
Francesca was very knowledgeable when it came to helping me with Calculus. She provided me with various tips and strategies for solving word problems, which I had always had difficulty with. She is a very patient person and doesn't make you feel bad for not knowing stuff. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would recommend her to anyone needing help with math.
Thank you, Francesca. My son enjoys working with you and is now more confident about the class subjects. His grade is already improving. Yay!
Francesca is a great tutor. She is very patient and never late. She explained the concept of physics very well. Even though we only have 4 lessons, my grade improved a lot.
My daughter feels confident with Francesca. She explains everything in a way for her to understand the problems. I am so glad she told her to eat and rest well. I have been telling her these for the longest time. Maybe hearing it from someone else, she will start focusing more. Thanks, Francesca!
I feel very fortunate to have Francesca tutor my grandson. She is the first tutor I've had that has taken the time to meet with my grandson's teacher to have a better understanding of what is being taught in the classroom. She also does spot checks, again going to the school to double check if he had homework or not.
I appreciate Francesca's thorough knowledge of Algebra and her ability to explain concepts in ways that are easy to understand.
Francesca is an excellent tutor. She was able to get my son back on track in his physics class after falling behind. I can't thank her enough! She is able to explain complex subjects very clearly, and she is very patient. I will use her again when my other son takes physics.
She's rarely late, and when she is, she gives you a heads up. She really enjoys what she teaches and is overall a very nice person and great tutor.
Francesca helped our son improve his confidence level and his grades, and I can't thank her enough. She is patient and creative, knows her subjects, and more importantly she is optimistic, even when working with a kid who seemingly didn't care about his academic success. Francesca is also very good at working with kids who have an ADD/ADHD diagnosis. She understands the challenges that these students can often bring (excuses, false assurances, lack of organization, and so on), and really works hard to show them that their energy would be better spent just doing the work. I can't thank her enough for all her help, and highly recommend her to other parents.
Thank you so much for helping me with my college math class. I really felt comfortable with you and was very impressed from the beginning with your knowledge and professionalism. You get what it takes to tutor a student. You were great at figuring out my thought process and explained things in a way that made sense to me. I just finished my class and got an A!
Francesca has always been very helpful and flexible. My daughter has had to make some changes in her schedule and Francesca is always able to find a time that would work. Francesca is also very knowledgeable and patient.
Francesca was a wonderful tutor. She helped my daughter raise her SAT math test score and I couldn't be more pleased! Smart, prompt and an effective teacher. I would highly recommend Francesca!
Francesca has been a great tutor for my niece. She has been very prompt friendly and courteous. As my niece is from China she has some special difficulties to overcome and Francesca has been right there for her and has helped her in Biology, Pre Calc, English and World History.
Thank You Francesca!!!
Francesca is a very pleasant and polite teacher. She is patient and thorough. She helped our daughter improve her scores. I definitely recommend her.
Francesca helped me understand the concepts with ease by always utilizing our surroundings. She helped me see the real life applications of physics and explained all of my questions by showing me easy-to-understand techniques.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught this subject to students from ages 13 to 57, and I realize how difficult it can seem. So I work on improving not only students' understanding of the subject but also their confidence in it, to ensure that what they learn they will also retain for future use.
I first started programming in C++ in high school in 1999. Since then, I have used the language in college during labwork and for personal amusement, but not professionally. I am capable at teaching the basics of logic and translating specific problems into code. I would not be the best choice for the experienced, but may be ideal for a beginner.
I took the CBEST as part of joining the Santa Clara Teacher Credentialing program and passed without studying on the first try. I regularly tutor almost all of its topics at an equal or higher level than they are presented in the exam.
MATLAB is the primary programming resource used by my university's physics program. As a result, I have used it a great deal, both as a basic mathematical tool and for more complex physical system modelling and signal analysis. I would a good match for beginning students, but perhaps not for those with years of experience in other languages.
As my degree subject, Physics is my primary tutoring subject. I take a particular joy in teaching it with direct connections to a student's own experiences, using the world to make sense of the math, and using the math to make sense of the world.
