About Rae

Bio

I am Rae and I have a passion for teaching in novel ways to elevate and excite my students. My passion for educational excellence and my acting background makes my lessons innovative and compelling. I began my journey by working with neurodivergent students, specifically those with down syndrome and autism. My teaching journey began when I spent time working with young acting students in elementary, middle, and high school as a volunteer teaching artist. I graduated college summa cum laude...

I am Rae and I have a passion for teaching in novel ways to elevate and excite my students. My passion for educational excellence and my acting background makes my lessons innovative and compelling. I began my journey by working with neurodivergent students, specifically those with down syndrome and autism. My teaching journey began when I spent time working with young acting students in elementary, middle, and high school as a volunteer teaching artist. I graduated college summa cum laude with two BFA's one in English and the other in Acting. Now I am happy to be a certified Orton-Gillingham tutor working with students who have dyslexia, but I have not let it define them. I spent 2 years class room teaching (2021-2022 school year) for Beit Rabban Day School. I have since become an independent Orton Gillingham practitioner and private tutor in a myriad of subjects, strengthening their literacy skills, and improving their grades.

I am a trained Orton-Gillingham tutor who has worked both one on one and in group settings. I have taught Wilson, used components from LETRS and use these to tailor my lessons to my individual students. I have improved my students spelling, naming, and fluency skills with an arsenal of multi-sensory tools. The combination of perfectly paced words, decodable texts, and star word techniques can prepare writers and readers to gain confidence. Soon, I hope to begin my application to become a fellow which requires an additional 200 hours of training.

I earned my BFA in Theater, graduating summa cum laude. My studies consisted of Acting, Shakespeare, Chekhov, American Realism, Veiwpoints, Lecoq, Improvisation. Taught Improv and Acting for several years to middle and high school students. Studied world theater history extensively and earned a Chancellors Arts Endorsed Diploma. Worked for 10+ years as an actor. As a playwright, I have learned from an array of playwrights including Erin Courtney, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Carrey Harrison, and others.

I have been trained and have been received certification in Estill voice training. I have also minored in vocal performance, trained in speech, and vocal production. Most importantly I have worked as a background vocalist for 10 years, singing behind some of the greats including SZA, Chance the Rapper, Whoopi Goldberg, Alessia Cara, James Corden, Lykee Li, and others. I have performed as a singer on Colbert, SNL, and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. I have worked in the field which makes me a unique instructor.

Very knowledgeable and inciteful expertise!

She was able to pin point what I was looking to improve without me knowing myself. She is very good at helping you understand what she's saying by using analogies, and body language to put a clear image in your head while making it fun. She's highly motivated and very passionate when she teaches. You can tell she really loves to share her life's passion with others and help them grow.
