Hi! I’m Em, a senior at Cornell studying Industrial and Labor Relations on the pre-law track. As a current student, I can connect with students and engage them in the material while providing study and writing tips, many of which I currently employ in my own work.
Growing up in NYC, I am familiar with the high school process and teaching methods across grade levels. I have been tutoring since 9th grade and have worked with students K-12 on English and History for grade-level classes, APs, and college prep. Over the last four years, I have mostly focused on college advising, providing feedback on over 30 high schoolers' Common Application and supplemental essays, guiding them through each step of the process. Discussing students' goals for each essay and working with their needs ensures we end lessons with an essay they feel best represents their personal journey. Former students currently attend top universities, including NYU, UNC Chapel Hill, and Vassar College.
Throughout my high school experience, I excelled in 12 AP classes and served on the board of countless clubs, including Model UN founder and Newspaper Editor. In college, I have served as a Law Clinic fellow and held positions on multiple club e-boards. Currently, I am interning with a non-profit.
My teaching methods are tailored to the students’ needs, with a focus on their areas of growth. My goal is to empower them to employ the tools we discuss to feel confident in independently combining their knowledge of the topic and assignment requirements with essay-writing skills. I have proven essay-writing formats for various courses and genres that I tailor for every student’s individual writing process.
I offer lessons online throughout the school year and summer. If the goal of the session is to edit an already written piece of work, kindly send a copy 24 hours in advance to ensure I can review it before our meeting.
