Hi! I'm Ben, a recent grad from Princeton, having majored in math. I'm now teaching Precalculus full-time.
If you're looking for a top quality tutor, I will exceed your expectations. I know how to engage students; I have unmatched familiarity with precisely what material to teach.
I have experience as a teacher's assistant (TA) for 3 years in the nation's hardest math sequence, and also have put hundreds of hours into tutoring and helping students one on one. I've worked extensively with students who are currently at the top of their class, as well as ones who are currently falling behind. I am confident that under my help and guidance, we'll drastically increase your confidence and ability in any STEM subject you'd like.
My beliefs:
*Education is what I am most passionate about. It pains me to hear stories of students who hate math because of an uncaring teacher.
*There is so much that can be done to improve STEM education, and it starts from prioritizing concepts.
*Formulas should never be memorized, always understood. I won't ask students to repeat formulas. Students don't remember formulas, they retain understanding.
*Every single student has the potential to learn math the right way. There is no reason for students to feel they can't gain good conceptual understanding.
My tutoring experience:
*Currently teaching Precalculus
*Tutored for 4 years
*Served as a lead TA for 6 semesters, hosting office hours and tutoring 1-on-1
*Coached competition math at competitive summer program
*Earned university-wide recognition for academic generosity
My qualifications:
*Princeton grad, magna cum laude in math
*Earned a perfect score on SAT Math, SAT2 Math II, AP Calc BC, AP Stats, and ACT tests.
*Participated in competitive math in high school and college, scoring top 100 in the US on the nationwide Putnam exam.

I have a very flexible schedule, and would love to hear from you! I don't take in-person students. I mainly work with older high school or college students, but can make exceptions.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

I’m in my 4th full year calculus course as of right now, have scored a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam, and am currently a math major in college.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I've taken 3 years of university classes in both number theory and combinatorics. I've studied set theory, logic, graph theory, and other topics all at a university level doing rigorous coursework. I've tutored for 3 years in number theory and combinatorics, also serving as a TA for my university class and as a full time job over the summer at a competitive math camp. All of these topics relate heavily to competition math, which I tutor in and compete in, having scored top 100 in the Putnam exam (national undergraduate math competition).
Physics

Physics

I'm currently finishing my third year of Physics classes. I earned a 5 on the AP Physics C test and an 800 on the Physics SAT2. I believe I can bring a lot to the table in terms of helping students gain an intuition for physics. I think that physics can be approached mathematically and also without much math at all, so regardless of your level in math, I can be accommodating.

Top in the field 💯

One of my favorite professors, who also was an instructor for Princeton and Duke, she said if you can’t illustrate something in a simple way then you don’t really understand the subject well enough. Ben is able to turn calculus from a somewhat complicated process into an anxiety-free, creative and engaging experience. Math is Ben’s major and he comes from an Ivy-league education background. That already says a lot of about his skill and knowledge in the field. The lesson is always very enjoyable and efficient. He expresses ideas and explanations with great clarity which definitely has made the understanding part for students much easier. He not only helped me with the problems I was having difficulty with, he also gives me a different experience about learning calculus. In other words, besides good methods to approach problems, Ben cultivates the interest and confidence for his students in learning the subject. Ben is truly passionate about helping people struggle with STEM subject. When you learn with him, you can feel Ben is so kindhearted, non-judgmental and patient. You don’t need to worry at all if the questions you are asking are “stupid”. If you need help with calculus like I am, I highly recommend Ben!

Exceptional Math Tutor

Ben is a truly exceptional Math tutor. He not only displays a deep understanding of the subject (graph theory!) but also has a remarkable ability to convey complex concepts in a simple and relatable manner. He has boosted my daughter's confidence in her Math class after two sessions, and we plan to continue seeking his services. I highly recommend this tutor to anyone seeking math assistance.

Great tutor.

Ben is in touch with what is being taught right now in college, not what was taught years ago. He clearly explained concepts the professor had blitzed over. Ben is easy to work with.

Patient tutor

I am having a difficult time with AP Calc, and after one session so far it seems to be less complicated. Looking forward to the next tutoring session. I am a senior in High School and I'd like to finish strong, I feel more confident after my first tutoring session with Ben.
