Mathematics Tutor - Applied Math Major at Columbia University

I’m Alejandro! I’ve been tutoring for four years, and have tutored kids from 6th grade to 12th grade. I was valedictorian of my high school, got 5’s on both of my AP Calculus exams, and now go to Columbia University as an undergraduate Applied Mathematics major. I usually tutor online, and I’m really passionate about mathematics and helping kids understand topics in order to advance and be prepared for future exams and classes. I’ve taught one on one on Zoom, and have used online materials to help students understand more of the mathematics topics both while in session and out of session. I’m really flexible when it comes to hours, and I’m very patient if a student doesn’t understand a topic right away and will work until they have that “ah-ha” moment in their brain. I look forward to working with you and helping you succeed!

When it comes to my tutoring approach, I tend to teach how my teachers taught me back in high school - passionately and effectively. I usually do a few examples and then let the students take free reign and if they ever get stuck, I give them hints in the right direction - but never give them the answer. I also like to give them worksheets I find online and quizzes too so they can practice both in and out of the session. I’m very open to any accommodations when it comes to my teaching plan -and if the way I’m teaching doesn’t seem to be the most effective for the student, feel free to reach out and let me know what I can change in order to suit their needs!
