Hi, I'm Hannah! I recently graduated magna cum laude from Barnard College of Columbia University. I majored in English with concentrations in Creative Writing and Theatre. I also recently completed a summer intensive course at Oxford University, where I specialized in poetry and playwriting. I am passionate about storytelling, whether as a reader or writer, and hope to pass that enthusiasm on to the students with whom I work.
I have previous experience working with late elementary and middle grade students as a writing workshop mentor at the Family Learning Institute (Ann Arbor, MI) and as a Teacher's Assistant for Columbia University's Double Discovery Center. As an event planner at Barnard College and an administrator at Juilliard Drama Division, I have also worked with college students and prospective high school students, and pride myself on my ability to build relationships with students of all ages. I have written in a wide variety of contexts and genres, and consider myself something of a grammar and syntax nerd. In high school, I was the editor in chief for my high school newspaper, and later worked as a newsroom intern for a local branch of NPR. More recently, I have written articles and served as the primary copyeditor for Juilliard's Drama Division. I have written countless pieces of creative, journalistic, and analytical writing over the course of my education and career, and have extensive experience with research, outlining strategies, and brainstorming essay topics for college admissions and high school or college courses.
I also have experience preparing for the SAT and ACT. Though I did not pursue math in my college degree, I excelled in high school math and received a 5 on my AP Calculus test.
I think the tutor/tutee relationship should be built on mutual collaboration and passion. I hope to work with my tutees to develop sessions that meet your needs and find ways for you to communicate your ideas effectively, persuasively, and with enthusiasm. I look forward to meeting you soon!
