Bio

Hello! My name is Brogan, and I am a recent graduate of Georgetown University, where I majored in Classics, with concentrations in Greek and Latin. I studied the works of a variety of ancient authors, including Vergil, Caesar, Cicero, Horace, Livy, Homer, Sappho, and Pindar, in the original Latin/Greek.

I worked as a teaching assistant during an internship at the Caedmon School, a Montessori private school in NYC. I also worked full-time during multiple summers with groups of 17-30 children at the Caedmon School Discovery Camp, where I developed group instruction and classroom management skills.

As a student at the Browning School, an elite college preparatory school in Manhattan, I had top-quality college guidance and training in the craft of writing applications. I also excelled in persuasive writing, winning multiple awards for my research on historical subjects, including the William R. Root Jr. Award and the Lawrence Lee Scott Award. I submitted award-winning entries to competitions in other disciplines, such as poetry and public speaking.

At Georgetown, I was expected to produce original research, some of which I presented at the Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Conference on the Ancient World at NYU in 2021. Throughout my secondary and post-secondary education, I've been exposed to a variety of pedagogical approaches to critical reading and writing. I can help you and your student with college essays, cover letters, literary analysis, and other written projects.

I earned a 1500 on the SAT on my first sitting, scoring in the 99th percentile. I scored a 760 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section and a 740 on the Math section. I also scored 7 out of 8 on all three essay categories: Reading, Analysis, and Writing.

I also have experience in the world of computer programming. While at Georgetown, I took three semesters of coursework in computer science, where I worked with C++ and Java. I am also familiar with the fundamentals of HTML/CSS and JavaScript.

College Counseling

I have provided college essay tutoring using a variety of methods, including those of Ethan Sawyer, Rachel Toor, and Sheila Bender. At The Browning School, an elite college-preparatory school in Manhattan, I had extensive training through the Advanced Expository Writing class in the craft of writing college applications. I also received one-on-one guidance from an expert counselor with decades of experience in the industry. Since then, I have honed my persuasive and expository writing abilities even further while studying Classics at Georgetown University.

Greta Tutor!

Amazing help! Knows what he is doing and goes above and beyond to help the student. He took his time to understand the problem and then did what he could to help me with it. Couldn’t have asked for better help!

Brogan is amazing!

Brogan recently started tutoring my teen in AP Latin, and so far, we both think he is fantastic. His passion for his subject (and for language in general), his intellectual curiosity, and his patience and enthusiasm as a teacher make him a pleasure to work with. Thank you!

Creative, kind, and brilliant writing tutor

I have been working with Brogan on my Master's thesis in English, and his feedback and ideas have been invaluable. He has been helping me with "big picture" concepts for my research, and his knowledge of resources and ideas has made a huge difference in my thesis writing process. Brogan is an incredible active listener when I ask questions, and his responses always blow me away because he offers such excellent, creative insights that I would have never thought of. In addition to his amazing help with the overarching structure and research argument for my thesis, Brogan has helped me with my writing organization and style. My favorite thing about Brogan, though, is how kind, patient, and caring he is. He loves teaching and tutoring, and that passion shines through when he explains ideas and offers suggestions. I cannot recommend Brogan highly enough. He is one of a kind, and I am very lucky to have found him!

Best tutor

I have worked with numerous tutors over the years, and hands down you are the best one to assist with essay editing. You are clearly a master at it.

Unpacks complicated literature and poetry in accessible way. Friendly and patient.

Brogan and I reviewed a poem I was struggling to decipher, and he helped me understand how to identify allusions and meaning in complex poetry. He quickly identified the way I was approaching the poem and helped me build on that foundation. I am so excited to work with him again.

Great Teacher

Was very helpful when looking into the deeper meaning and interpreting an Emily Dickinson poem! Very understanding of the topic and helps with resources and things necessary for the specific assignment.
