I am a certified educator and graduated summa cum laude with a Master's degree from Concordia College - Bronxville. I also received an award to teach English as a Second Language in France.

In addition to pursuing a Master's degree in education, I am currently working with students with ADHD in a classroom setting. Some of my education classes focus on specializing in teaching students with ADD and ADHD. I also have a few years of experience tutoring elementary and middle school students in this subject area.

I am currently enrolled in a Master's Program for K-6 education at Sarah Lawrence College. Last year I completed the first year of the program with coursework in Math and Technology, Children's Literature and the Child as Maker. I've been a Middle School substitute teacher in Computers and Geometry. I've tutored Reading and Literacy for more than three years, and tutored ESL to a 6th grader in France for a year. I also homeschooled fourth grade lessons for six months, while my family was moving. During that time, I developed a fourth grade curriculum in keeping with the common core. My student successfully returned to a public school setting at the completion of the lessons.

My undergraduate minor is in English. After college, I was awarded an Embassade de France award to teach English in France, where I taught high school ESL and prepared students for the French Baccalaureat, and for entrance exams to the Grands Ecoles. While in France, I also tutored middle and elementary school ESL, and more recently, tutored a Korean engineer in conversational language and Business English. I also tutored a first grader using Orton Gillingham methods, who improved her reading skills by five levels in just a few lessons.

I tutored reading and writing to special needs children in early elementary and nursery school, for three years. The children's needs ranged from attention deficit disorder to dyslexia, asperger's and autism. I also coached and modeled appropriate behaviors where necessary.

Did a Wonderful Job

Lara did a wonderful job helping my son with poetry. She carefully explains things in to him in a way where he can easily understand and and this is quite helpful for him. She listens attentively to his feedback and gives him the opportunity to express his ideas. Thanks Lara!

Lara H. is great!

We brought Lara H., into our home in November 2015. Lara is very soft spoken women and she and my daughter Katharine connected really fast. Lara, help Katharine with English reading and writing. We had Lara twice a week for a total of 2 hours. Katharine learned a lot with Lara. Sometimes Katharine needed assistance on other homework and Lara was willing to assist Katharine. I do recommend Lara, she's will teach your child and she has a kind heart of understanding. One thing Lara does is after the learning session, she has toy awards for your child to choose from. I believe this is a great incentive, for all children.
