Bio

I hold a PhD in Economics from Columbia University, where my research focused on applying machine learning techniques to econometric causal analysis. I have a strong foundation in statistics, mathematics, and quantitative methods built up across both my undergraduate and graduate work. Beyond academia, I've spent years working professionally in data and engineering roles, including time at the Federal Reserve on inflation forecasting and FOMC analysis, which gives me a real-world perspective...

I hold a PhD in Economics from Columbia University, where my research focused on applying machine learning techniques to econometric causal analysis. I have a strong foundation in statistics, mathematics, and quantitative methods built up across both my undergraduate and graduate work. Beyond academia, I've spent years working professionally in data and engineering roles, including time at the Federal Reserve on inflation forecasting and FOMC analysis, which gives me a real-world perspective I try to bring into every session.
I have five years of experience as a teaching assistant in the Columbia economics department, where I taught first-year macroeconomics and statistics through graduate-level macroeconomics. These were small classroom settings of two to ten students, which let me get to know each student's strengths and gaps and adapt the pace accordingly. My approach centers on building intuition before drilling mechanics — I want students to understand why a result holds, not just how to reproduce it on an exam. I lean on worked examples, careful diagram work for visual learners, and connecting abstract theory to current events so the material feels relevant rather than arbitrary.
Outside the classroom, I've tutored one-on-one in two settings. I worked with middle and high school students during their study hall periods at school, and I tutored college students at Columbia in economics and quantitative subjects. The college work often meant unpacking confusing lecture material, walking through problem sets, and prepping for midterms and finals. In one-on-one tutoring I try to listen first and explain second, since most students already half-know the material and the fastest progress comes from finding the specific gap and filling it precisely. I tailor each session to the student's course, instructor, and goals, and I'm equally comfortable with a quick pre-exam concept rescue or ongoing weekly support across a semester.
