Hi and thanks for considering me as your GRE/GMAT tutor.
For each of these tests, I have been in your shoes and so I know what it means to struggle with the material and to be lost as to how to approach the prep. I know how frustrating it can be when the websites and prep books are just not enough. What many tutors just do not get is that for these tests, the student does not need a teacher-like presentation of the material, the student needs to know exactly what to do to prep for these altogether unique tests.
I get it, though. My GRE and GMAT prep tutoring is not just my experience and academic credentials (I got 'em both, though), or even how well I know the material. It's much more about my understanding what YOU need to do, how you need to do it and my ability to figure out what is holding you back. It's also about communicating the same concept in any number of ways, so every student can get it. This is what good tutoring is all about.
I totally get it...and I get you, remember, I've been there myself.
Let's try a session, and get you the help you need! Hi and thanks for considering me as your GRE/GMAT tutor.

I have always struggled with math sections on standardized tests, and came to Scott after scoring fairly low on the GMAT. I was planning to take the GRE instead and needed help to improve my score. Scott was able to quickly diagnose my "problem spots" for test-taking skills and helped to give me practice and advice to overcome them. Whether you need help learning the material, or diagnosing WHY you keep missing certain questions, Scott has the skills to solve the problem. I was able to score above my goal for math section of the GRE thanks to Scott's help! 10/10 would recommend!
I tried out several GRE tutors before finding Scott. He's a gem! Scott is extremely articulate, knowledgeable, and kind. He had answers to all of my questions, and I feel that he genuinely cares about his students. I would absolutely recommend Scott and look forward to many more sessions together!
He taught be that a solid structure is needed to guide my writing. He also taught me that in a personal essay their needs to be a personal story that displays my aptitude for the field of Occupational Therapy.
I had a few session with Scott and already I can see some results. I know that with him I will get better, confident and ready for the GRE exam. I will take him again.
Scott helped me find some weaknesses right away in my first lesson. He was also very upfront about what I needed to change with my study plan. I will continue working with him
Scott knows a lot about test prep. His approach is very easy going and straight forward. Within just two sessions, he has already helped me look at the test in a much more positive perspective; this has helped me jumpstart my preparation. I have already signed up for another session next week! If you are stuck with test prep overall (like me) or need help with something specific, and want to make a change for yourself, I would highly recommend Scott for help.
Scott continues to challenge my traditional way of learning and pushing me to fulfill my full potential. It's not all about tricks but more about how to reason and find answers multiple ways. So glad I found him!
He's a legit tutor who knows what he is talking about. Definitely worth the money spent. I would recommend him to any and everyone regardless of what they're studying.
Being an adult student is tough, and being an adult student taking the GRE is challenging and at times, overwhelming. I was just like you a few weeks back, scrolling through numerous tutor reviews, assessing each tutor, searching for one to help me attack the GRE. I'm a newbie to the tutoring world, so of course I was skeptical of the entire thing. Much to my surprise, after just a single, one-hour session with Scott, I was FLOORED, AND THRILLED, AND GLAD I TOOK THE LEAP. Vividly, I recall Scott honing in on my weaknesses, with just two review questions. Scott swiftly developed a non overwhelming plan for me to improve my skills and broaden my knowledge. Math has never been my strongest subject, I have struggled since grade school!! Scott diagnosed and then provided a solution to issues I have been wrestling with since I can remember. Scott is easy to talk to, he's to the point, but not in an abrasive way, and simply a SUPERIOR tutor. Some tutors claim that they will teach you tricks and shortcuts to manage the GRE, which is largely a waste of your time, energy and money. If you struggle with one area of the GRE, or maybe the entire exam freaks you out; then Scott is the tutor for you. Thank you Scott, from the bottom of my heart, for assisting me in my journey to achieving my dream.
He is very down to earth, tried to understand your situation and comes up with a solution that makes things easier for you. I am taking GMAT classes with him and he is very focused on the foundation as he says that it just makes you better in doing the difficult part.
Scott and I have been working together for about a month and a half. In that time, Scott helped raise my GMAT scores 150 points. I simply could not have done that without his help.
Scott helped me tremendously with learning to understand the question and getting a better score. While taking the test I could remember having gone over certain things which helped me out! Thanks!
In just 2 months of tutoring with Scott I raised my math score from 148 to 153, and my analytical writing from a 3.5 to a 5. I have gotten interviews to most of the graduate programs I have applied to. I cannot say enough positive things about Scott! He really knows his students and is flexible with scheduling. I was skeptical about the online tutoring, but it was like I was there in the room with him.
I appreciated Scott's straightforwardness. He did not attempt to sugar coat anything and the first session consisted of a Q and A on how he tutors and what he expects as well as gauging what level I am currently at. I am receiving tutoring for the GRE.
Scott broke down the GRE into manageable steps and gave me homework that I felt I could accomplish during our meeting sessions
I have changed my mind about virtual tutoring. We broke down some of the content areas that I was familiar with and we devised a plan with his materials to get my 100 point goal! I'm excited!
In our first meeting we went over my background and expectations for the GMAT test. We laid out a specific plan so I am paced to learn everything i need to feel prepared for the test. I can't wait to see how well everything turns out.
Scott gave a great first impression. He came to the session prepared and ready to teach me. He was able to assign me homework and gave me a study schedule. I was very impressed.
I read so many great things about Scott however I found him to be disappointing. He made me feel overwhelmed and did not truly explain his reasoning behind the answers.
While I'm sorry to hear that Victoria was disappointed, something just does not add up about this review. Our last lesson was over 7 months ago, and we had enough lessons to cover the entire math curriculum for the GRE. After a few weeks, she even decided to meet with me MORE frequently than what she had been originally. So, it's odd that she is just now expressing this regret.
Certainly she is entitled to her feelings, and I sincerely wish that every lesson was a perfect one, but the GRE and GMAT are demanding tests, and they are by their very nature overwhelming. This is why my primary goal is to break things down as simply as possible, and explain everything in a very clear and basic manner. Over the past 6 years, each of my 50 other student reviewers claims that this is my primary strength as a tutor.
Great first tutoring session with Scott. Efficient, clear and helpful. Relatable and approachable. Looking forward to working with him in the future.
Scott kept things light in spite of my anxiety and has restored my hope in my ability to pass the GMAT. I feel that between his expertise and my commitment we can achieve my desired goals.
I have dyslexia which heavily affected my ability to learn and retain grammatical knowledge. Scott is very patient and presents the problems and answers in a way that doesn't feel condescending or patronizing. I highly recommend him.
I worked with Scott over the final two months of preparation for the test. With Scott's help, my score improved by 60 points. He has great materials to share and works through problems in a thorough, consistent way that helps students build their GMAT skills. Highly recommended.
After trying to improve my GMAT quant score for several months with some test prep companies, I quickly became discouraged with my results. I read through a lot of books and other test prep material, but I never improved. I contacted several tutors through this site, and Scott was the first to respond (some tutors never responded at all and others did not keep their appointment time).
After our initial lesson, Scott gave me some resources to improve my skills. Our first 4 lessons focused on improving fundamental skills. After I mastered each subject that the GMAT tested, we moved on to practicing GMAT questions and review the questions together during our lesson time.
Working with Scott was really helpful to my improved score; I went from a 34 to a 42 on the quant section. I really feel that spending time on the basics and then working through GMAT questions together really helped me a lot. We did not spend much time on verbal because my score was already in the high 80s.
If you are looking for a good tutor, I recommend giving Scott a try.
Scott did a great job of breaking things down for me and immediately gave me a number of extra materials to bolster my study plan. Can't wait to start seeing results!
Scott and I went over practical strategies for attacking reading comprehension questions for the GRE. My confidence is growing as I realize, with Scott's help, I can tackle the GRE and get a real chance at showcasing my capabilities to my choice graduate programs.
Scott outlined his approach to help me prepare for the GMAT. It was a great, dynamic first session. I am confident his methodology will help me achieve success!
I had done some homework in advance on what I wanted and we reviewed exactly what I needed. Scott is very knowledgeable and flexible. He gave me direction as well on what part of my PhD application was going to be most important, not just the GRE portion. I completely recommend. 5-stars!
I have just begun my classes with Scott, but he has taught me strategies for how to study for the GRE, and which topics to cover.
We reviewed some quantitative reasoning measures. Scott is generous with tips that make learning fun and memorable. My confidence of doing well on the GRE continuous to increase.
The initial conversation laid out the foundation of what to expect for future tutor sessions. He is very detailed oriented and makes the online tutoring sessions work.
First session Scott covers introduction to GRE and instruction how to achieve the score. He focus on the basic elements that needed for digging deeper as we go in the materials.
Scott is extremely professional, great to work with, and, most importantly, helps you accomplish your goals. He was very flexible in scheduling and answered emails very quickly. He brought many of his own materials to the tutoring sessions which gave me more material to study for free. I could not recommend him more.
I worked with Scott for months in order to pass the GRE for grad school. I did very well on it and ended up getting in to my #1 choice! Scott was tough when he needed to be and encouraging and empathetic when I needed it. It was like he read my mind. He knew just the right words to say when I was frustrated and in need of some encouragement. I would absolutely recommend him. I don't think I could have or would have done it without him. He's honestly the best! Thanks Scott, I know I wasn't easy to tutor, but we beat the odds!
I worked with Scott for about 5 months and was very happy with the results. He is extremely knowledgable and was absolutely critical at helping me achieve the score I wanted.
Scott has VERY high expectations of his students. As long as you put in the work, Scott's expertise will help you polish your skills and you'll see your score improve.
It was a pleasure working with him. Highly recommended.
How to prepare for my GRE. I like how he gives me lesson plans for the next time we have a lesson.
Scott has been working with my son to prepare for the GMAT exam. After a few lessons, my son took the test and scored poorly. Scott worked with him some more and my son took the test a second time. Again, he did poorly. Scott restructured his entire strategy tutoring my son which included more individual prep time for my son and less lessons (budget was a big concern). He carefully prepared lessons plans according to my sons needs. After a third time, my son increased his score almost 100 points. Scott also worked with my son on preparing his personal essay and was extremely helpful with the task. In addition, Scott took into consideration my concerns and addressed them thoroughly while working with my son.
I would highly recommend Scott. The on line method (which I was skeptical about) worked well for my son and Scott kept him focused. This method gave my son the flexibility to be tutored at home and at school. Scott works on developing different strategies until he finds the one which works for the student. He knows the exam thoroughly, has patience and works well with students as well as parents.
Scott's knowledge and guidance helped me to achieve a GRE score I didn't think was possible. His experience coupled with his no nonsense style of teaching is exactly what I needed. He is genuine in his desire to help those who need it, upfront with his expectations, and patient when he needs to be. I would recommend him to anyone.
There are no words to express my gratitude to Scott. Scott tutored me in math for ten weeks as I prepared for the GRE. Not only would I not have gotten the score I needed on the GRE if it hadn't been for Scott, I don't know if I would have been able to pass the exam. He has a gift for explaining concepts in a simple way, and has a fool proof method and structure to prepare the student for test day. He's also a great therapist - he managed to talk me off a couple of cliffs throughout the process.
I wasn't sure initially how tutoring sessions via Skype would work, but I'm a believer now. Scott also helped me with the verbal portion of the GRE and with my Personal Statement for the application for graduate school. He is an absolute Rock Star. Worth every penny.
My first draft was SO good my professor was willing to accept the "first draft" as my final paper!!! I couldn't be more happy. Scott is the best at what he does. It won't get better than him.
I was studying for the GMAT and was really worried about the progress I was making. I reached out to Scott and somehow he put all of my concerns back into perspective. He quickly assessed my abilities and set me on the road to success with a clever study plan. He provided me with insight that wasn't available anywhere else on the web. Scott is a genius and a gentleman. You couldn't ask for a better tutor. Taking lessons from him was the best investment I ever made.
Scott makes the entire process not only simple but fun. I'd highly recommend him to anyone looking to start preparing for their GMAT. He really takes his time to figure out your strengths and weaknesses, as well as provides a fresh perspective on the way you look at math. Overall, a really great experience.
Scott prepped me for the GRE. I am in my 50's and I haven't studied math for well over 30 years. In three months, Scott took me through everything from arithmetic to stats & probabilities. He knew what the GRE would ask and what they would avoid. We didn't waste time on superfluous information and he was able to give me tips and techniques as well as a solid method for solving problems. I may not have scored in the top 10%, but without Scott's patience and guidance I would have bombed the test. I cannot recommend Scott as a tutor highly enough. And by the way, he also is fantastic for English part as well.
I started working with Scott in August preparing for my GMAT in November. In the few weeks, he was able to bring me up to speed on the math going through all the worksheets and practice problems. In the verbal, he showed me different techniques for reading comprehension, critical reasoning and sentence correction that helped me increase my understanding of the questions and how to answer strategically. Although I was hesitant with online tutoring, Scott's way of tutoring has changed my perspective.
Thanks Scott for all your patience and hard work with my preparation.
...I went from being largely math illiterate to being able to work algebra problems. I'm moving on to coordinate geometry. Scott holds the keys to the math kingdom - I highly recommend him as a GRE tutor.
I have ADHD and learning disabilities and Scott was very patient with me throughout the whole process. The use of Skype was a great way to increase my engagement and my understanding. Scott was always prepared, even when I wasn't. He took his time to make sure I understood concepts before he moved on to something else. Because of him, I increased my confidence and was more prepared to take the GRE. He really knows his stuff!
Scott, by far, has been the best tutor I have ever had. I took the GMAT for the 6th time and increased my score by 100 points; the other 5 times my score stayed stagnant and never increased. I was reluctant to work with another tutor since I had used other prep materials and tutors, and was unable to truly understand the test. Scott not only prepared me for the concepts on the test, but literally helped change my perspective on this test. He constantly challenged me while providing resources and guidance along the way. His work speaks for itself. He is able to understand you as a person and really get in your head to show you how you think and channel that to how you need to think. It was a very rewarding process and I could not be any happier with my current scores.--Thank you Scott!!
Scott showed me exactly what I needed to do to prepare for all parts of the GRE. His system is simple, easy to follow, and effective. He helped me to understand the math and verbal skills and gave me very clear information on how to use these skills in a logical way to answer questions. Scott also gave me the structure I needed to properly study and practice on my own.
All of our sessions were done via Skype and the internet. After just a few minutes of our first lesson, I could see that his virtual classroom worked great. With Scott’s help, and a lot of hard work on my own, I scored high enough on the GRE to get accepted into ALL of the grad programs I applied to. Next fall, I’ll be attending grad school on a full study scholarship -- and Scott helped me get there!
If you are willing to really work hard, I can’t imagine a better option for GRE prep than Scott!
Scott tutored my son for a little over two months, mostly two or three times week, in order to prep for the GRE. He was very diligent and caring. He developed a strong rapport with my son, which is a plus. I believe he is very well intentioned and honest. I also believe that he is over confident in his methods versus the big name prep course. My son got the same score after all these sessions with Scott and spending more than one of the big name courses. No one method works with every student and the results are based largely on what the student puts into it. I do believe my son worked hard. He discouraged my son from switching to a big name (guaranteed) course. He understandably cannot afford to back his work with free tutoring, so now I have to pay for the big name course that comes with a guarantee to at least let the student take additional course for free or a hire more skilled tutor. I would recommend Scott as a tutor, but would take his confidence in his self designed methods with a grain of salt. If you or your child have a good score and want to make it better, Scott could be great. If there are challenges in test taking or other issues, I think a tutor with more formal training or one of the big names may be a better.
I certainly appreciate David’s frustration at his son having to retake the GRE, but his comments do not accurately reflect my experience with his son.
David’s son had done absolutely no preparation when he contacted me a few days prior to his test. After working together for only 4 days, he achieved a decent score on the test, especially given the circumstances. Right before his first test, David’s son told me that he had already scheduled a re-test and that he would call me to resume lessons. We did eventually resume lessons, but we only met for 8 hours in a 2 month span, not exactly the 2-3 times a week like Dad said. I’m also not as sure as Dad that David put in the necessary work. He canceled multiple sessions, and in every session ‘confessed’ that he had not studied vocabulary words or learned key math concepts, like special right triangles. Not surprisingly, he scored the same on his re-test as he did on his first test.
My program is not about ‘methods’. I help students learn the skills and logic they need, and I help students develop a structured plan for working on their own, when they are not meeting with me. My program works great for all students, no matter what level they are starting at, so long as the student is willing to put in the work.
Thank goodness I decided on Scott as my GRE tutor. After I left myself with only a week to prepare for the GRE, I started working with Scott. He put me on a very structured and streamlined program and accommodated my last-second scheduling needs. Scott’s precise knowledge of what I needed to know to prepare for the test was invaluable. In just 7 days, by following his program to the letter, I was able to achieve my program’s minimum score requirement on the math section and I came within 5 points on the verbal side. If I had started with Scott sooner, I am positive I would have scored even higher. If I did not work with Scott for that week, I am positive my score would have been awful.
I really liked Scott’s virtual classroom. Because I was able to see him and his computer screen while we were working, the learning atmosphere he created was both very professional and effective. Scott is very easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable right away. I can understand if any of you are hesitant to try the online tutoring, but believe me, Scott’s system works great and he is a very personable guy. I did not see any drawbacks to it all. Scott has also given me great advice on my personal statement and other aspects of my grad school application.
I absolutely recommend Scott and his virtual classroom for anyone, anywhere who is trying to get into grad school.
Scott is not just a GMAT tutor- he is a total GMAT prep master. He understands the test so well that he knows the techniques and strategies found in the prep books are useless, so he developed his own! He has these original techniques for preparing for each part that make perfect sense, are easy to apply and actually resulted in me being well-prepared for the test. I used three other tutors before him who had no clue about an overall game plan. Scott has a game plan that is thorough, practical and worked to dramatically improve my score- from just below 500 to well over 600!!
There were a couple of other things about working Scott that were also wonderful. His virtual classroom is perfect: convenient and (just like he says) totally hands on. Also, working with him was a lot of fun- he has a way of keeping things light enough that lasting through a longer session was no problem. Finally, he had this great way of keeping me calm and confident even though this test had me completely freaked out! I can’t recommend Scott enough- I put my trust in him and it paid off completely!!
Thanks so much Scott!!!!
Scott has a way of explaining things that makes it easy to understand. He is the perfect choice in prepping for the GMAT exam. He has a specific gameplan and keeps me on track. I have selected the best tutor for me. Great experience thus far!
Scott is an excellent tutor. My daughter was very motivated and at first tried to study for her SATs on her own. However, after working with Scott, her scores improved drastically. Scott was able to pinpoint where she needed the extra help and fine tuning. He provided her with useful strategies and instruction. With Scott's help and guidance, my daughter's SAT scores went up 140 points and she achieved a perfect 800 on math!
To have even a small part in such a significant achievement is rewarding and humbling. Great job, Rachel! Next stop: U Penn!
Scott helped me improve my math score by 150 points (old scale)!! I am not mathematically inclined so Scott had his work cut out for him. He was very patient and always available. Thanks to him I am able achieve my academic goals!!! Thank you Scott!! You are the best!!
Missy is already a college professor, now she is headed back for a PhD! Way to go, Missy!
Gives easy to understand help on the various math questions. Really helps with the abstract thinking that helps on the SAT. Also helped think of a thesis for the college essay and narrowed focus.
I am really glad I found Scott as a tutor. He bends over backward to make sure that I receive the extra help I need in my graduate program (Legal Studies). Half of the time he helps me understand the law, the other half of the time he helps me understand how to research and write at a graduate level. Scott has a genuine passion for helping me learn and succeed, which makes me all the more motivated to learn. I highly recommend him. He is very passionate, and patient in helping others succeed in their studies.
I have needed help over the past year in my MBA program. Scott has helped with the areas I was struggling with, especially with doing research and writing at the level needed to succeed in graduate school. Scott has helped me understand how to get better at this, so that overtime I have been able to do this more and more by myself!
Scott has been an invaluable resource for me during my first year of law school. He understands the core concepts of 1L classes very well and explains them to me with a nice mix of plain English and legal expertise. With Scott's help, I did well enough my first year to make Law Review! Even though he has moved out of my area, He still helps me regularly through telephone, email and video conferencing. If you want to understand the law, call Scott. Its that simple!
Scott did an amazing job helping me with certain trouble spots I was having with the math portion of the GRE. Our tutoring session was through Skype- at first I was not sure how that would work, but Scott was so well-prepared that the time was completely productive. I totally recommend anyone who needs a math tutor to hire Scott!
Louise told me that the video-conferencing was "so cool!" What's even cooler is that she was accepted as a graduate student at Rutgers!
I have been learning English as a second language, so I have been looking for a tutor who has the ability to help me to improve my language. I have been tutored by many teachers, but none of them has been helpful as much as Scott. His wide acquaintance helps me a lot to enrich my knowledge and discussion especially in culture and history. He is my best tutor.
Scott is pleasant and easy to work with. My son, a teenager, found him easy to get along with and was impressed by his knowledge and his ability to convey that knowledge. For our purposes, Scott fit the bill very well.
The methodology Scott used to help me through my assignment process was very helpful and effective. He is very responsive and easy to communicate with, through the phone or via email. I was first apprehensive at finding a tutor online but he is definitely someone I would recommend to any students out there !
Scott L. was extremely helpful and patient with me. I have to turn in a writing assignment for my Business Law II course, in which I thought it seemed nearly impossible to put together in one day since I waited to the last minute. Scott gave me a lot of hope and motivation to finish the writing assignment in which was due that same night at 11:59 pm. He made me see a side of me which I never knew I had. He is very knowledgeable in his field and is very reliable since I had to call him several times whenever I had a question. Thank you Scott, you saved helped me earn a higher grade on my Business Law course.
Scott is always available when needed. He is knowledgeable, reliable, and patient. He tries his best to be there at your convenience. He was able to help my daughter improve her grades in Algebra and History.
I have used a variety of tutors and most have been very bright. The difference with Scott was his understanding and attention to how I understood and comprehended topics and theories. Instead of just teaching the material to me he identified the most effective way I would comprehend the subject matter, creating a personalized plan to help me succeed. I Would recommend his services to anyone wanting an edge.
Jordan worked hard. A bank manager by day, he put in 'overtime' in his GMAT prep early in the mornings, late at night and throughout the weekends. It paid off though, he was accepted into the MBA program at the University of Florida!
My daughter was in danger of failing the 5th grade and desperately needed help with math. We enlisted Scott's help a month before the FCAT and he was able work with my daughter so that she understood the concepts needed in order to pass. Not only did she pass the FCAT but his teaching methods were so great that she brought her grade up from an "F" to a "B" in just one grade period!!! Scott is kind, patient and really targets the areas needed for improvement!! For anyone with an elementary or middle school-aged child that need help in math, Scott is definitely a great tutor!!!!! My daughter thinks the world of him and my husband and I are so grateful!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I remember about 5 years ago when I was looking for a GRE tutor. The first tutor I used had an Ivy League degree and the second tutor had a PhD in Math. I couldn’t understand a word either of them said to me. You see, they were total geniuses, and I’m not. They couldn’t speak my language.
Next, I turned to the prep books. I was amazed at how easy they made everything seem…until I realized they wrote the questions they were telling us how to answer. Then I understood why they always said stuff like “This is a good question for plugging in numbers, and the number 7 works really well here…”
My approach to tutoring for the GRE is much simpler: First, here are the “A, B, Cs” and “1, 2, 3s” we need to know and here is how we are going to learn them. Second, here is how we de-code GRE questions to make sense of them. Third, practice, practice, practice…
I give every GRE student a personalized plan for GRE success and then I help the student execute the plan. With an organized and sensible prep plan, EVERY student can score well on the GRE…including you.
Please take the GRE seriously, because your score really does matter. Grad school admission is ultra-competitive and it is the key to you fulfilling your academic and professional dreams. If you are ready to work, I am ready to help you reach your dreams!
