Software Engineer with 2 Years of Tutoring Experience

Hello prospective students and parents! My name is Jonathan and I am a tutor specializing in math and computer science. I graduated summa cum laude from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Software Engineering and I have two years of tutoring experience as well as two years of industry experience as a software engineer.

In high school, I always gravitated towards STEM. I started learning Java in 9th grade and have become intrinsically familiar with it in the years since then. I've always tended to do best in math/computer science and received a perfect 800 on my SAT math score. I continued my studies in college, where I received a bachelor's of science in software engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology. I achieved a GPA of 3.8 and received the summa cum laude latin honor. During these years, I expanded my programming knowledge greatly, diving deep into Python, databases, and frontend frameworks.

During college, I tutored computer science online for two years. I have worked with a variety of age groups from high school to college students to even adults. I find it very important to guide students through a problem at their own pace and not just give them the solution right away. I greatly enjoy being able to help students and seeing the "ah-ha" moment when everything starts to click. I've worked as a software engineer in industry for two years as well, helping me to refine my skills further in a practical environment. This work largely consisted of backend Java development with databases. Through this experience, I've come to understand how important the fundamentals are to working in a real-world environment and I would love to help others reach this point.
