I teach a class called Desktop Publishing using MS Word and Publisher. In this class students act as a Desktop Publisher for several different companies and create all the flyers, brochures, business cards, letterhead, etc. that the company needs. The simulations used by the students are: Frillio's Pizza, Concert Tour, and Elect Me! all from BE Publishing. Skills learned include: page and layout design, working with graphic images, objects and elements used in graphic design, creativity and imagination, technical writing, critical thinking. Also included are planning and decision making, advertising and marketing and creating documents using Publisher and Word. This gives students a solid understanding of how to use this software.

As a former high school business/tech teacher and a current online college adjunct, I model English skills through my teaching. I am a NJ certified business/technology teacher who is currently a college adjunct. I use technology all the time in my college classes, especially when teaching online.
Grammar

Grammar

Teaching business and technology subjects gives me the unique opportunity to edit and revise grammar both online and in person. Most students submit their work using technology and have spelling/grammar tools to proofread, but rarely use them. As a teacher, I stressed the use of them by modeling how they work as well as explained their errors so they understood what they did wrong and learned how to do it correctly.
Homeschool

Homeschool

I have taught high school business/tech as well as some middle school Computer Apps classes. I am NJ certified in Business/ Technology as well as NJ Elementary School certified. I've taught online for many years and continue to do so as an adjunct professor. I feel strongly that I can assist homeschool students with projects, homework, etc.

Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is our email system in my school district. It is a free email service provided by Microsoft. It has many organizational tools to keep your email clutter free. Our school district updated to the newer version of Outlook but we've been using this system for several years now, so I am familiar with how it works. I email many times a day and use most of the functions provided in Outlook. As a matter of fact, I've trained many of my colleagues how to use Outlook.
Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows describes an operating system of computers. Currently, we work with Windows 7 but I've worked in past years with Windows XP. I've also been exposed to Windows 8 which is on my laptop. Our students learn how to operate the computers in general by becoming familiar with the operating system of their computer. We start out each computer class by reviewing this information.
Microsoft Word

Patient, extremely helpful, and loves what she does!

Mariechen is extremely helpful and passionate about her work. Prior to our first session, Mariechen went searching for various resources on her own time. She came prepared to each session with all materials she felt were necessary in helping me. While tutoring me for the Praxis standardized test, she was very patient. She quickly discovered and focused on the subjects that I needed the most work in, and provided me with many helpful strategies. I would highly recommend Mariechen to any student who wishes to improve their test taking skills.
