About Jeff

Remember how difficult it was the first time your physics teacher said you had to break forces down into components in order to use Newton's Second Law? Or when they asked you to find the maxima and minima of a complicated function? I sure do - I struggled with those things as well. But I found that with good teachers and some hard work, I was able to master difficult concepts. Through my struggle, I learned how to effectively instruct students in physics and math.

I have tutored throughout high school, college and graduate school, and have experience tutoring all levels of students - from elementary school students to upper level undergraduate students. I also taught physics at the college level and was nominated for an outstanding teacher award.

I have my Ph.D. in physics and through earning my degree I have obtained a deep understanding of the field, as well as plenty of experience teaching it. My enthusiasm for teaching physics and math is apparent in my tutoring sessions. This makes students excited to learn and therefore more receptive to the concepts.

Additionally, I know the ins and outs of the math sections on the new SAT and ACT, as well as the SAT Math Level 1 and Level 2 subject tests.

Feel free to contact me and ask any questions you may have, whether they are about my qualifications, my teaching philosophy or anything else that comes to mind!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I am currently employed as a tutor for a private tutoring company and successfully tutor ACT math. I also took the ACT math test and got every question correct. I am proficient in all the areas of math that they test on the ACT.

Algebra 1

I have tutored algebra 1 for over 10 years. I'm familiar with all the types of problems and have had success tutoring. I am currently employed as a tutor for a private company tutoring algebra 1.

Algebra 2

I have tutored algebra 2 for a long time and I'm familiar with all the types of problems and have had success tutoring students in these areas. I currently tutor algebra 2 with a private tutoring company.

MCAT

I am highly qualified to tutor MCAT physics. I have a PhD in physics and have tutored numerous students in MCAT physics. MCAT physics doesn't require memorizing a lot of physics formulae. However, it does require good problem solving and analytical skills, which are the focus of my MCAT physics tutoring.

Physics

I have taught physics for 8 semesters and supervised over 300 students in that time. I have developed problems and presented problem solving strategies to help students learn the material. I was also nominated for an outstanding teacher award. I have tutored many students in physics for the past 7 years.

Salsa Dancing

I participated as an active member of Florida State University's Azucar Dance Company for 5.5 years. During four of those years, I was the group's lead instructor, helping to develop our curriculum, as well as train people who wanted to be part of our team. I was able to teach beginners, intermediate, and advanced. I also taught out of town during workshops.
