Hi, I'm Austin! I'm a Senior Computer Science student at UNC Charlotte (UNCC) and a former instructional assistant for the College of Computing and Informatics at UNCC. My role as an instructional assistant allowed me to empower students to succeed as they worked their way through a Java Programming course, and my goal is to do the same for my tutoring students. I strive for success as a student and my passion for learning has enabled me to develop a deep understanding of various subjects such as Linear Algebra, Data Structures and Algorithms, Java Programming, and C programming. My ultimate goal as a tutor is to inspire my students to take an interest in learning and to provide them with tools for success.

Outside of my experience working with students as an instructional assistant, I have also offered tutoring to students working on core Computer Science courses. I believe that all students are capable of success if they are given the unique assistance and guidance needed to get there. I achieve this by taking time to understand why a student is struggling, how the student learns, and working with the student to develop an understanding of a subject from the ground up.

Before tutoring begins, I develop a unique plan for each student to build on their strengths and address their weaknesses. This enables students to pass exams and get through challenging classes by developing a deeper understanding of the subject matter. I offer free consultation meetings for all students, enabling me to develop a plan for the student and allowing the student to get a feel for my approach to tutoring.

Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a free consultation meeting.

Computer Science

My previous work as an instructional assistant at UNC Charlotte allowed me to hone my skills as a computer science tutor while working with students. I have tutored and mentored students in an unofficial capacity throughout my time at UNC Charlotte, often leading both one-on-one and group learning sessions for a variety of computer science courses. I am currently approaching my final semester at UNCC and have completed coursework in Data Structures and Algorithms, Intro to Computer Systems, Programming Language Design, Software Engineering, Logic and Algorithms, and Web-based application development. I have earned A's in all computer science classes completed at UNC Charlotte and I hope to help my students earn similar grades. I am passionate about computer science and helping others develop a deeper understanding of computer science fundamentals. My academic and professional experience gives me the necessary experience to help students pass their computer science courses and build the foundational knowledge needed for continued academic success.
Java

Java

I first learned to program in Java as a teenager. At the time I wrote Java programs with the goal of modding games, such as Minecraft. This experience sparked my passion for programming and the Java language. My role as a Software engineer at an early-stage startup requires that I write, test, and review Java code daily. I'm passionate about helping others learn to program in Java. I worked as an instructional assistant at UNC Charlotte where I assisted students as they worked through their final Java programming course. I taught students about foundational Java concepts, including object-oriented design principles, exception handling, encapsulation, and polymorphism. My background as a software engineer, computer science student, and instructional assistant enables me to help students gain a deep understanding of the Java programming language.
