Hello! I'm Josh. I graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor from Cooley Law School. Before that, I graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a bachelor's degree in English.

While a student at SVSU I spent two years as a peer mentor at the SVSU Writing Center. It was there I first experienced the fun of collaborating with students on their work. Our main goal at the SVSUWC was to improve the writer, not just to improve the document. We worked on a variety of documents for both students and faculty, including things like term papers and technical reports, resumes, and even lesson plans. In that role I would NOT simply proofread the document, but would sit with the writer to discuss and brainstorm ways to improve it. We also worked to assist students for whom English was a second language with a variety of writing projects. While at SVSU I also participated in a federal pilot program in which I was able to spend two days per week teaching alternative education students ranging from 8th to 12th grades.

After SVSU I spent 5 years working as a journalist for a small daily newspaper before I entered law school in 2006. In 2009, I graduated from law school and began running my own practice focused on criminal defense and civil rights. For the past 6 years I have worked as a staff attorney and adjunct professor at the Cooley Law School Innocence Project where our goal was to exonerate wrongfully convicted people through the use of DNA testing and other forensic sciences. I helped teach the clinic's classroom component, while also carrying my own caseload and supervising the work of our student-attorneys.

I am competent to assist in English, government, social studies, or law. I prefer online sessions where possible, but I recognize that there is real value in face-to-face sessions so I am willing to meet in a public place when appropriate or necessary. Please feel free to message me for more information or to schedule a session.
