I earned an advanced study certificate from Mass. General Hospital Institute in Boston to become a reading specialist with an initial license to teach reading to ALL grade levels (even adults). I'm a certified Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner having completed Steps 1-6 (falls under umbrella of Orton-Gillingham). I completed two practicums: one for Mass General Institute and one for Wilson. Take into account whether online learning is best for your child re: attention.

I'm a certified elementary teacher and started as a first grade teacher in 2007. I taught fourth grade for eight years. Taught all grades as a building substitute for 4 years prior to becoming a certified elementary teacher and have had many encounters with students with various skills, learning abilities, and worked with various families tutoring their children. Currently using the Wilson program to teach students with dyslexia, so if you are looking to improve your child's spelling or reading, I can help! Candidate should be between grades 2-5 and be able to sustain attention for one hour and 15 minutes. Materials cost $70 prior to taxes and most students do 3 sessions a week. The first two sessions include an assessment. Completion of steps 1-6 takes about a year to 3 years (or even longer) depending on the learner. I hope to make a difference in your child's life!

ADHD

ADHD

I have lots of experience in working with students who have ADHD when I worked as a classroom teacher for 12 years. I learned to help students with ADHD by taking graduate coursework and through professional development offered by several public school districts. I have worked with numerous students who had been diagnosed as ADD or ADHD, and worked with occupational therapists to gain insight in how to support students with attention deficits.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I currently work with students who are on the spectrum, and support them with comprehension and the Wilson curriculum. I've had plenty of students through my 12 years of teaching, in working with students on the spectrum. I've sat with many special education specialists and have had the opportunity to implement various strategies with autistic students, from creating visuals, clear directions/expectations, cleaning clutter, saying "first, then", token systems, and have completed 40 hours of Registered Behavior Technician, which was issued by a Responsible Trainer, Justin Leaf.
Common Core

Common Core

I have worked as a building sub/literacy interventionist for four years within public schools. I have also worked as a professional teacher that is licensed as a literacy specialist (all grade levels) and an elementary teacher (grades 1 through 6) in the state of Massachusetts. I have primarily worked within urban districts and my lesson plans strictly followed Common Core standards, which were shared with colleagues and the principal. Often times, these standards were shared with the students, as well. Often I was required to write on the board how the lesson weaved in the speaking, reading. writing, and listening standards. This assisted with how I structured the lesson because I knew not only the WHY we were doing the lesson, but HOW we were going to achieve the goals.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

i have taught students in small group settings and individually who have been diagnosed as having a language-based disability. I completed a practicum having taught over 60 Wilson lessons with one individual student and received my Wilson certification as of June 25, 2020. This credential recognizes individuals as prepared to diagnostically teach students identified with a language‐based learning disability, such as dyslexia, at the beginning levels of encoding and reading. In addition, I completed a practicum with a reading specialist program at the MGH Institute and received my certificate of advanced study in May, 2020. I have experience using the Just Words curriculum and implemented the literacy program with a group of third graders during this past school year.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a license in Elementary and graduated from UMass-Boston with a master's degree in elementary education. I have taught TERC Investigations for eight years and most familiar with the first and fourth grade curricula. I've used Lucy Calkins to teach reading and writing, and used my own resources to create book clubs for students. I have lots of experience working with different students from various backgrounds. I'm familiar with the Common Core standards for every grade.
Homeschool

Homeschool

As a former elementary teacher that worked in ten plus years in public school system, I was able to take the knowledge I learned and apply it to homeschooling my daughter. There were many resources I used from school when I was teacher, such as teaching math Investigations. My daughter was given keyboarding lessons, coding, math books/projects, reading, handwriting and writing different genres, as well as, science projects. Often times, field trips would take place to learn more about the history of Boston. I also have experience from homeschooling as a teenager, so I know what it means to homeschool a child and be an unschooler, read my own books, discovered dance and piano, which were my passions.
ISEE

ISEE

I have had past student experiences using the ISEE Princeton Review book, specifically the math portion. I have gone over specific math and reading skills to help students; however, I have only taught the math and reading portions to fifth graders entering sixth grade. As an elementary teacher, I'm very familiar with Common Core standards and have experience teaching 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade math and reading. Therefore, I am aware of skills needed to be taught and how to teach the skills in a way that is understandable to 5th graders taking the ISEE.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have taught students with dyslexia using the Wilson program and became certified in 2020. As a graduate of elementary education and literacy and language, I have take several courses on language disabilities, and creating universal design lessons. The most practical experience I've had in working with students with disabilities was during my time as a first and third, and fourth grade teacher for eights years within public school systems. I've also worked as a building substitute/literacy interventionist and supported various students with disabilities for 4 years.

Great tutor!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor. I love that my daughter is comfortable working with Mr. Josh and feels that it would be very beneficial for her to continue. I am excited to continue our tutoring with him :)

Josh

Josh, It is absolutely amazing, and I was skeptical a bit with the online, but really has worked well. If your child or children are behind from Covid, I suggest you hire him. And it pains me to write this because I know he’s going to have less time for Molly.
