I am a current Ph.D. student in Classical Philology, who have been tutoring students in Latin and Ancient Greek for more than nine years. I have tutored all types of students: middle school students, high school students, college students, adults, students who are struggling in their classes, students who aren't struggling in their classes but just want to explore the subject more deeply, and students who aren't even in a class but want to learn ancient languages as a hobby. I bring the same passion for ancient literature and history to all of my students, and love to work with students to structure tutoring sessions to fit their individual needs and goals.
I am particularly interested in the intersections of antiquity and modern culture. In my tutoring sessions I try not just to improve my students' Latin skills, but also to connect their study of Latin to the modern world; to build passion as well as proficiency.
I hold an AB in Classics from Princeton University, and am currently studying at Harvard University. I have also taught for the Paideia Institute for Humanistic Study as a faculty member for the Living Latin in Rome (High School) program, and as a Rome Fellow.
Although I was educated using a traditional Grammar-Translation approach to Latin, through my time at the Paideia Institute I also have experience with various approaches to Active Spoken Latin pedagogies. I have tutored students using both traditional methods, spoken immersion methods, and other hybrid methods.
Whether you are a student wanting to improve your grade in a class, or an adult wanting to read ancient literature, I look forward to hearing from you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned BA in Classics from Princeton University. I am a current Ph.D. Student in Classics at Harvard University.
I wrote a senior thesis on the Hymns of Synesius of Cyrene.
