I'm Ellis, I hold a B.A. in Environmental Biology with a minor in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. In my first two years of college I had a 3.0 GPA with an F and multiple Cs. I realized I had to overhaul the way I approached learning to become a competitive medical school applicant. After careful scrutiny and modification of my study habits, I finished my junior and senior years with straight As in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Calculus, and Statistics. Soon I scored a 100th percentile (524) on my first MCAT attempt with subsection scores all at or above the 97th percentile (CP 131, CARS 130, BB 132, PS 131).
I believe I owe my success to strict adherence to evidence-based learning methods and I will tutor students in accordance with the same methods I used (e.g. spaced repetition, Feynman technique, active recall, etc.) I also have 400+ hours of formal teaching experience as an EMT preceptor for community college students, where I taught patient assessment, pharmacology, physiology, and operations/skills.
Effective tutoring goes beyond reviewing material, it demands cultivating intentional study habits. I work with students at every stage of the pre-health journey (high schoolers, undergraduates, and nontraditional applicants) to develop the skills they need for long-term success. Whether you need a personalized study plan from scratch, tutoring for specific subjects or concepts, application advising, or medical school admissions consulting, I'll create work with you to create a plan to fit your needs.
As a first-generation, low-income student, I know the value of accessible education. I offer sliding scale or low-cost tutoring/advising for students residing in NYC with demonstrated financial need (AAMC FAP, Pell Grant, etc.).
I offer free initial consults as well.
