About Molly

Bio

I have a knack for working with teens and tweens with visual art interests. If they need help with other topics, I connect how subjects like history, science, and literature relate to art. I can often build solutions to work with students’ strengths and their interests, boosting their confidence. Art is my “home base,” and my desire to learn has never abated. I’m a polymath who loves diving into new interests, and I'm happiest when blending learning with creativity.

I enjoy working with students who have neurodifferences. To be transparent, doctors diagnosed me with ADHD in my 30s. Students with neurodifferences like ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, TS, etc., feel a sense of connection when we tackle a challenging subject together. Additionally, educators shouldn't forget students identified as “gifted learners.” Twice exceptional or not, they also have unique educational needs. I was labeled “gifted” in junior high. If your gifted learner needs a tutor who "gets" their experience, I will strive to give them the support they need, too.

My experience is a blend of environments. I taught high school for 5 years at a STEM-certified PK-12 private school. My classes included AP Art & Design, drawing, painting, graphic design, 3D forms, and middle school art. Beyond school experience, I worked as an instructor at a “paint & sip” studio. For over 3 years, I led classes and parties for all ages. I’ve worked in public libraries for 7+ years, where I focus on creating and hosting events for teens.

My teaching certificate is up to date. I completed “STEM Innovations & Global Competence,” a course sponsored by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in 2022. In 2024, I completed 30+ hours of instruction on teaching AP Art & Design. SCAD hosted this class, endorsed by the College Board’s AP Program. In college, I double-majored, earning a B.A. in Studio Art and a B.S. in Computer Science.

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator

I have worked professionally as a graphic designer for schools, libraries, a law firm, and independent contracts. Additionally, I studied Studio Art in college and am a certified teacher. I continue to sharpen my skills in Adobe Illustrator and love how versatile working in vector can be. Admittedly, Adobe programs can be overwhelming for new users. Whether you’re looking to take existing art skills into a new medium, or want to learn about design principles while mastering Illustrator, I’m eager to help!
Drawing

Drawing

I am a certified teacher, and taught high school and middle school art classes (including Painting, Drawing, 3D Forms, Graphic Design, and AP Art & Design) at a STEM certified school. In my 7+ years working in libraries, I have also planned and executed many STEM and art events. Maybe you draw because you love creating characters, making art, and expressing yourself. Maybe you draw because you want to make apps, robots, and inventions that don’t exist in the world yet, and you need to somehow show others what is in your mind. Whatever your motivation, I’m excited to work together to hone your skills. Line quality, contrast, shape, form, proportions, composition, all help communicate your vision. We can explore your choice of graphite (pencil), color pencil, ink and markers, charcoal, chalk or oil pastels, or mixed media. I am open to exploring digital drawing/painting/rendering too, however I would like to touch base on which program you want to use first. Reach out and let’s sketch up a plan together!
Graphic Design

Graphic Design

I've worked professionally as a graphic designer for schools, libraries, a law firm, and independent contracts. Additionally, I studied Studio Art in college and am a certified teacher. I continue to sharpen my skills in the Adobe Creative Suite programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and am a wizard with Canva. I’m also happy to get scrappy. If all you have is Google Drive or paper and tape, we can still make visually enticing work that conveys your vital info. Tools like Adobe and Canva are amazing, but learning design principles will carry you through any project.
Painting

Painting

I am a certified teacher, and have taught traditional high school and middle school art classes (including Painting, Drawing, AP Art & Design). Additionally, I worked 3+ years at a “paint & sip” studio, leading classes and parties for many ages. In my 7+ years working in libraries, I have also planned and executed many arts and crafts events. In college, I earned a B.A. in Studio Art. I have the ability to be a bit of a “style mimic.” If there is a particular subject matter or artwork inspiring you to learn to paint, I’m eager to help you examine and practice those methods. We can explore color theory, planning compositions, layering, perspective techniques, and more. In my personal practice, I tend to work with acrylic paint, bold colors, and have a style that shows influence from illustration, surrealism, graphic design, cartooning, and street art. I occasionally delve into watercolors and spray paint when a particular artwork calls for these media. Increasingly, I am experimenting with mixed media.
Study Skills

Study Skills

Every brain learns a bit differently. Sometimes it can feel like, “I’ve tried what my friends’ do. Why isn’t it working for me?” While studying will always take effort and commitment, finding which tactics work best for you specifically helps immensely. I have worked as a teacher and in library teen services. As someone who had to figure out how to study later in my education, I firmly believe learning how to study is a skill that will serve you no matter what you choose to pursue in life. Secretly, learning never ends even after school is done. Let's try to blend the work with humor, creativity, and gamification.
