About Long

When I was entering college from high school, I was a struggling C student initially. However, after encountering my German professor, I realized that the key in becoming a successful student is to have the right mentality. With this mentality change, I managed to get a 3.987 GPA at UCF, which was far better than my 2.3 in high school. During my time at University of Central Florida as a teacher’s assistant, I have always shown that the hallmark of a successful students is made from effort and mentality rather than being in-born into others. In addition, I have learned that by teaching in a fun and innovative way, a student can engage more in a subject.

With my teaching method, it is about making the learning experience fun rather than boring, I found that this engages the student more in the subject. In addition, I also want to make sure the student understands the process of certain concepts rather than just memorizing such concepts (remember there is always a purpose in a concept). With this type of understanding, I not only prepare students to do well in the current the subjects that they need help in, but also successfully conquer future subjects and problems.

I was a teacher's assistant in the summer of 2015 at the University of Central Florida for two classes of statistical methods in psychology. In addition, I have all As in both three semesters of Statistical methodology and in advanced research methods, which involves the heavy use of statistical analysis.

I have a 3.987 in the Psychology major at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In addition, I graduated in the summer of 2016 with an honor's degree in the major of Psychology from UCF by completing my honor's thesis in Chinese Language Processing. Beyond my grade credentials, I was also a teacher's assistant in the fall of 2015 for Industrial/Organizational psychology at the University of Central Florida. With this job, I have tutored students in completing final projects and how to conduct their projects in respects with businesses in Central Florida. In addition, I was also a teacher's assistant in the spring of 2016 for Developmental Psychology.

I have attained a BA in German and Italian at Florida State University. In addition, I also have a MA in German from the same institution. I have attended school in both Germany and Italy. Once with the Goethe Institute attaining a B2 certification and once at Scuola Tricolore at the intermediate level.

I studied independently on the GRE and received a 164 on the Mathematics section of the GRE (top 15%), 157 on the Verbal Section of the GRE (top 25%) and a 4.5 in writing (top 20%).

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have used algebra in statistical analysis, when doing research in language processing. In addition, this skill comes in handy when doing everyday items like cooking. I was also a teacher's assistant at UCF and I specialize in reducing anxiety that comes with doing math.

German

I have a BA in German and an MA in German, both from Florida State University. In addition, I have studied with the Goethe Institute in Germany and received a B2 qualification in German Language. I have teacher experience by being a TA at UCF for four classes. I emphasize meaningful learning for long-term memory rather than just short-term memorizing.

GRE

I spent the summer of 2016 studying for the GRE, I have experience as a teacher's assistant at UCF in four classes. In addition, I increased my score from a 306 (150-Verbal, 156- Quantitive) to a 321 (157- Verbal, 164- Quantitive). I did this by working in testing speed and working on vocabulary and reading skills.

Italian

I attained a BA in Italian from Florida State University in 2007. In addition, I have studied in Italy (Genoa) at Scuola Tricolore, where I have attained an intermediate certification in the Italian language.

Prealgebra

I have used this type of mathematics predominantly in study in the GRE math section. With the mastery of pre algebra and arithmetic, I have scored a 164 (87%) on the quantitative section of the GRE, which heavily emphasizes this skill.

Probability

I have taken statistical methods I, statistical methods II and statistical methods II all at UCF earning all As in the courses. In addition, I deal with probability in my everyday psychology research when I'm calculating the percentage error with any of my statistical tests that I run with my data.

Psychology

I'm currently a research assistant in a psychology lab called Applied Cognition and Technology Lab at the University of Central Florida (UCF). I've been research assistant for four classes at UCF (Twice- Statistical Methods, Once- I/O Psychology, Once- Developmental Psychology). I emphasize reasoning and thinking skills rather than memorization to optimize your learning potential.

Statistics

I was a teacher's assistant in Statistical Methods in Psychology at the University of Central Florida for the Summer of 2015. In that job, I tutored students during lab hours and office hours about evaluating data using statistical methods such as t-tests, ANOVAs, and correlations. In my teaching methods, I try to emphasize the understanding behind the reasoning behind statistical analysis.
