Hello! I have a MS in Biomedical Engineering and I work in the biotech industry doing organ-on-a-chip research.

I have 10 years of experience tutoring STEM subjects, particularly calculus, physics, and chemistry. I work with many students who may have excelled previously but need help adjusting to how the material is taught at the collegiate level. The structure and pacing of how STEM is taught in college requires students to "learn how to learn". I am passionate about helping students understand these concepts that may seem challenging at first, and teaching them how to become better learners

Most of my tutoring experience is 1-on-1 with AP and college students, but I have worked with students as young as middle school age up through retirees going back to college. I have received formal training in teaching methods and have years of experience in a management / training role.

My favorite thing about tutoring is seeing students who thought they'd "never get it" grow a new confidence in themselves. I work with students on time management and make sure to identify and target weak points.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

I tutor Calculus 1, 2, and 3. Calculus can feel impossible when teachers skip steps or explain things like you should already know what is happening. I try to do the opposite. I break problems down from the very beginning, explain each step in plain language, and make sure the student understands what is happening before moving on. I help students make sense of calculus by focusing on the reasoning behind the methods. Many students memorize steps but still feel lost when a problem looks different from the example. I work on closing that gap. My tutoring focuses on recognizing problem types, choosing the right method, and understanding what the math is actually doing.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I tutor General Chemistry 1 and 2, including prep for the ACS exam and AP Chemistry. My goal is not just to help students memorize formulas, but to help them understand why the formulas work and when to use them. Chemistry can feel like a bunch of random topics: stoichiometry, gases, equilibrium, acid-base, thermodynamics, kinetics, electrochemistry, and so on. I try to help students connect those topics into one bigger picture so the class feels less scattered. A lot of my tutoring focuses on building decision strategies: how to recognize what type of problem you are looking at, what information matters, what equation or concept applies, and how to check if the answer makes sense.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

Differential equations can feel strange because you are solving for a function, not just a number. I focus on making the setup, notation, and solution process feel less confusing and more manageable. I teach "big picture" strategies, and clean up good "Calculus habits" to be able to approach the full class.
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

Years of experience helping students master organic chemistry. I teach practical habits for understanding mechanisms and predicting products, plus effective strategies for memorizing reactions so they actually stick
Physics

Physics

I tutor General Physics 1 and 2 (calculus based, and including AP courses) Physics can feel overwhelming with how many types of problems and individual strategies there are. I focus on helping students recognize the type of problem in front of them, draw the right diagram, identify the important variables, and build a clear path from the concept to the equation. My goal is to help students understand the “why” behind the formulas instead of treating physics like memorization, and to develop the "big picture" of the course to properly connect concepts.
Statistics

Statistics

I help students make sense of statistics by breaking ideas down in plain language and focusing on what the numbers actually mean. Statistics can feel confusing because it mixes formulas, interpretation, probability, graphs, and word problems all at once. I focus on helping students understand what a problem is asking, how to choose the right approach, and how to explain the result clearly. My goal is to make statistics feel less like memorizing procedures and more like a practical way to understand data.

True gift for teaching chemistry!

We cannot say enough great things about Joe as a chemistry tutor. He is incredibly patient and has a true gift for teaching. Instead of just helping students memorize what they need to know for a test, Joe takes the time to explain the 'why' behind every concept. That depth of understanding made a huge difference. My son is a straight-A student in the honors college at UCF, but chemistry really challenged him. Despite spending hours studying on his own, he was struggling badly and even scored a 25% on a test. At that point, he was in real jeopardy of losing both his scholarships and his honors status. Then Joe stepped in—and everything changed. With Joe’s guidance, my son didn’t just improve—he truly understood the material. The very next test, he scored an 80. That was only after a week of sessions with Joe. The turnaround was incredible, and more importantly, my son gained confidence and a much deeper grasp of chemistry. Joe is also extremely flexible, offering both online and in-person sessions, which made scheduling so much easier. As a parent financially supporting my son, I really appreciated how communicative Joe was—he kept me informed about hours, rates, and what was covered during sessions. At the same time, he coordinated directly with my son on scheduling, which was very helpful. If you’re looking for a tutor who genuinely cares, communicates well, and helps students build real understanding—not just short-term memorization—Joe is absolutely the one to call. We are beyond grateful for the impact he’s had!
