I look forward to working with you to improve your skills.

ADHD

ADHD

I am a retired elementary school teacher with over 20 years of assisting ADD students in the classroom. I currently volunteer in a special needs pre-K classroom. Many students are diagnosed ADD or ADHD in this setting. We make many accommodations to help those students tune in to the classroom experience. The accommodations include pacing, visual cues, alternative activities, focus techniques, and creative activities all geared to help the ADD student absorb the learning task.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently hold certification in Elementary Education from the State of Florida. I taught for 26 years for Volusia County Schools, retiring in 2008. I enjoy working with young children and helping them love learning.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I have worked with several adult students and have current ESOL certification.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have experience with pre-algebra using on-line curriculum. The format helps the student understand chunks of information, gradually building understanding. We can work through examples together. Students gain confidence in their math skill!
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I took a public speaking course at the college level. Through my teaching and work on committees in the community and through church I have become comfortable speaking in front of groups of people. This particular skill improves through experience. So writing and giving speeches is the tried and true method. I feel that getting students comfortable with talking in informal situations is crucial for growth in this skill. Many people need to plan an argument or conversation. They need guidance and experience. These types of activities gradually lead to the ease with spoken language that helps our students become skilled public speakers.
Study Skills

Study Skills

Study Skills is a unique category, encompassing many differing avenues of learning style for the student. As a teacher of all ages, I would need to find out what kind of problems the student is encountering to plan which type of study skills would be most effective for that learner. My experience with many elementary, middle and high schoolers helps me evaluate the situation and make suggestions about which techniques would provide the most potential benefits for the student. Techniques often used include visual cues (like notecards), diagrams and other visual imagery, listening and reading comprehension, summarizing, test preparation, time management to name a few.

I believe that improving your daughter's reading skills is so important! I try to fit the work we do with her needs and interests. Thank you for the opportunity to help her shine!

Very kind and patient. Well prepared.

It was great watching Anna interact with my seven year old son who is receiving extra help with his reading. She was kind, patient and well prepared. I feel I learned, too, as a parent who sometimes struggles with helping my son with his learning. Thanks, Anna!
