Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

One-on-One is the best way to prep for the ACT. I ask the student to work on math problems prior to the tutoring session. Once i arrive we go over all problems the student did not get correct. During this process I teach any math concepts that have been "forgotten" and teach the student how to analyze each type of question and teach the student how to get to the correct answer.
I help ensure that on test day the student will achieve his best score.

Algebra 1

Algebra is a subject which is critical that a student do well in. The ability to master this subject will greatly affect the students performance in all subsequent math classes. The concepts in this course build upon one another. Therefore it is critical that if a student runs into trouble understanding a section that that be immediately corrected. I have helped many students gain the confidence and understanding needed so that math is a subject that can be appreciated instead of feared.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is a subject which is critical that a student do well in. The ability to master this subject will greatly affect the students perfromance in all subsequent math classes. The concepts in this course build upon one another. Therefore it is critical that if a student runs into trouble understanding a section that the missed concepts be immediately understood. I have helped many students gain the confidence and understanding needed so that math is a subject that can be appreciated instead of feared.

Career Development

I am currently a retired software engineer. I also currently work in real estate as a licensed real estate broker in Florida (License # BK3071967). My degrees in engineering (BSEE and MEE) and my MBA allow me to help other in developing their careers. I would assist those who request help in areas of my expertise.

CLAST

College-Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) validates that the student has acquired the knowledge expected of a college graduate. My many year of tutoring math, science, verbal skills and writing skills allows me to help a student prepare for this test. During my college career I have obtained a BSEE, MEE and MBA and therefore am well qualified to help a student pass the CLAST test.

Computer Science

I am a retired software engineer. I have worked for Raytheon company on radar system software for over 30 years.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have many years of tutoring experience. During those years I have worked with primary school aged students (Elementary (K-6th)) to help them grasp fundamentals of reading and mathematics. Working with younger children has its special rewards as one watches them grow intellectually "right before your eyes."

Fortran

I am a retired software engineer. I have done computer programming for over 30 years. I have programmed complicated radar system applications using the Fortran language.

Public Speaking

I have been President of a local Toastmasters group in Massachusetts. This group met at my place of work. I was involved with this group for several years learning the skills needed to become a relaxed, confident and skilled public speaker.

SAT Math

The SAT Math test challenges the problem solving ability of the student and the student's ability to apply mathematical principles to the solution of the stated problem. Over many years of helping students I have the skill to teach the student how to master each type of question they will encounter. By repeated practice and shared problem solving demonstration the student can quickly hones his skill. The goal is for each student to produce a score which accurately reflects his math aptitude. SAT preparation in this one-on-one mode is the most cost effective and time effective method to prepare for the test.

TEAS

This test preparation uses the same skills as preparation for the ACT and SAT. With my skill in test preparation and solid math tutoring skills I would qualify to prepare a student for TEAS. As a Wyzant tutor for several years I feel I am eligible to have TEAS added to my approved list.
