I am Dr. Shimelis, Ph.D., P.E., a licensed Professional Engineer (PE Civil), educator, and researcher with 20+ years of experience teaching and mentoring college, graduate, and adult learners. I hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Civil and Agricultural Engineering. I am Dr. Shimelis, Ph.D., P.E., a licensed Professional Engineer (PE Civil), educator, and researcher with 20+ years of experience teaching and mentoring college, graduate, and adult learners. I hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Civil and Agricultural Engineering. As a former professor at Florida International University, I have published more than 115 peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and book chapters and have led engineering and research projects in water resources, hydrology, hydraulics, watershed management, climate change, and environmental engineering across the United States, the Caribbean, Latin America, and Africa.

I specialize in preparing engineers for the PE Civil (Water Resources & Environmental, Construction, Geotechnical, and Transportation), PE Environmental, FE Civil, FE Environmental, and FE Other Disciplines exams. My students have an outstanding record of success. Recently, eight of my students passed their PE exams, and five additional students passed the FE Civil exam. I also tutor Mathematics, Statistics, and core Civil and Environmental Engineering courses at the high school, college, and graduate levels.

My teaching approach is practical, personalized, and results-driven. I begin by identifying each student's strengths and knowledge gaps, then develop a targeted study plan that emphasizes concept mastery, efficient problem-solving, reference manual navigation, and exam strategies. My goal is not only to help students pass their exams with confidence but also to build the technical skills and professional foundation needed for long-term success in engineering.

Shimelis has been an awesome tutor for my FE Civil Engineering prep. He explains engineering, economics, ethics, and math topics really clearly and makes sure I actually understand everything before moving on.
