Bio

My name is Lindsay Deen, and I am a tutor possessing over 15 years of experience in many different subjects. Currently residing next to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado Springs, CO, I enjoy connecting all learning to reality. My name is Lindsay Deen, and I am a tutor possessing over 15 years of experience in many different subjects. Currently residing next to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado Springs, CO, I enjoy connecting all learning to reality. While abstractions can be fun, I know that students need the knowledge they're learning to apply to the real world.

Whether it's learning how to write a timed response, studying Japanese, understanding budgeting and finance, making and editing movies, working algebra problems, or writing a paper, I'm adept in multiple subjects and can assist students in connecting to subject matter in many different ways. I have successfully tutored over 500 students in my career.

I began tutoring at Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC), first working as a peer tutor for math, English, and science. I began working with the PPCC Writing Center about a year before graduating from PPCC. I became a professional member of the PPCC Writing Center after finishing my Associates Degree. While working at the Pikes Peak Community College Writing Center, I also began working at the Writing Center at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs (UCCS). I continued working at the PPCC Writing Center until 2016, when they laid off all their professional tutors and moved to a peer-only tutoring model. After that, I worked with Tutor Doctors LLC as an in-home tutor, and now I currently work through Wyzant, Tutors.com, and through my own company, L. M. Deen Consulting, LLC to tutor students in middle and high school as well as college.

I have tutored Japanese, pre-algebra, algebra 1 & 2, statistics, biostatistics, biology, chemistry, life science, astronomy, history, English, and multiple courses on sustainability at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I have worked with students in middle and high school as well as college students at the graduate and undergraduate levels. I also have helped students prepare for the ASVAB, SAT, ACT, and Accuplacer tests in addition to the GRE and the senior comprehensive exam

Approved Subjects

ACT English

ACT English

I have helped students improve 2-5 points on the ACT overall and know how to help students manage and overcome test anxiety.
ACT Reading

ACT Reading

I have helped at least 5 students improve their ACT scores by 2-10 points through tutoring. I have tutored about 10 students for the ACT, 15+ for the SAT, 2 for the ASVAB, and 2 for the GRE. I do not have data for all of my ACT students tutored to know whether they improved since not all of them shared their information with me or did not have "before" and "after" scores to compare. I have helped other students prepare for testing generally as well.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I've been tutoring algebra since 2013 and enjoy it immensely.
Biostatistics

Biostatistics

I learned biostats over a semester in order to help my student, who was working on her Bachelor of Science, get through her coursework. I read and applied Biostatistics course books as well as Biostatistics for Dummies and was able to help her get through the course with a B.
