Hi! Let's team together to reach your goals in science or math. One of my greatest joys is to help students find academic success. We can tackle problems and concepts by breaking them down into simpler, less complicated chunks, and we can find strategies improve test performance.

A little about my background: I have a BA from Murray State University where I was a presidential scholar. I completed 52 hours of chemistry coursework with a 4.0. During my time at Murray, I enjoyed tutoring general, nursing, and analytical chemistry students through the university learning center. I then did my PhD work at Vanderbilt University where I was a Harold Stirling Vanderbilt Scholar. My research concentrated on organometallic synthesis and x-ray crystallography, and my teaching experience included organic lab, nursing chemistry lab, and general and honors general chemistry labs.
After earning my PhD, I spent 5 years at the University of Virginia as an instructor and research associate. As a research associate, I worked on synthesis and photophysics of metal complexes and helped undergraduates with their research projects for publication. I have eighteen publications in major chemistry journals.
After moving to Colorado, I taught general, physical and nursing chemistries at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I also tutored general chemistry and coached Science Olympiad at my local elementary school. Over the last few years, I have tutored high school chemistry, general college chemistry, organic I and biochemistry, as well as middle and high school math courses and college algebra. I was on the math team in high school and have always loved helping people with math!
I also enjoy helping with the ACT, particularly the math and science portions. We can use a diagnostic test to home in on areas that could use refinement and then concentrate on using strategies to improve performance.
I would very much enjoy helping you with your class or test prep.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

Hi! I enjoy working with people to make them more comfortable with taking standardized tests such as the ACT. I tutor algebra, geometry and trigonometry and find the variety of math presented on the ACT to be a fun mixture. We can practice taking the test and try to find ways to enhance your score through strategy as well as subject mastery. I also tutor the ACT Science section, so including that would be a possibility depending on your preferences.
ACT Science

ACT Science

Hi. I have a PhD in chemistry and enjoy helping people learn to analyze data in order to excel at the ACT science test. I also tutor algebra, geometry and trigonometry, and find the variety of math presented on the ACT to be a fun mixture. We can practice taking the test, (either the science or math sections or both), and try to find ways to enhance your score through strategy as well as subject mastery.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Hi! I have a PhD in chemistry and have taught at the University of Virginia, Vanderbilt University and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Being in the sciences, I have taken and used a lot of math along the way. I participated in math club and was on the math team in high school and have tutored the various levels of early and high school math, as well as college algebra. I also helped my 3 kids through their school careers. I'd enjoy working with you!
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Chemistry

Chemistry

I tutor chemistry because I enjoy it! I earned a PhD in chemistry, and I like to use what I have learned, both about chemistry and about the learning process itself, to connect with people to help them thrive. I enjoy tutoring general, honors and AP high school chemistry, as well as college general chemistry.
Geometry

Geometry

Hi! I have a PhD in chemistry and have taken and tutored lots of math along the way. I have always enjoyed math and was on the math team in high school. I think geometry can be one of the more fun subjects to tutor because it is so visual
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Hi! I get a huge kick out of helping people get a firm understanding of the early principles of math so that it can feel like fun! I am a chemistry PhD and have taken many math courses in college and graduate school. I've tutored kids, including my own, for years and love seeing eyes light up when they "get it"!
Precalculus

Precalculus

Hi! I enjoy tutoring precalculus. I have a PhD is chemistry and have taken lots of math along the way. I find that a lot of my chemistry students take precalculus simultaneously with chemistry and so it is particularly helpful to be able to help with both.
SAT Math

SAT Math

Hi, I enjoy helping people improve their scores on the math SAT section. Each problem is like a mini puzzle and finding strategies to approach each problem type can help to move quickly through this section of the test. Let's practice test taking skills and subject mastery to help you improve your score.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Hi! I have a PhD in chemistry and have taken and tutored a lot of math along the way. In high school, I was on the math team, and I have always felt like trigonometry and geometry are both very visual subjects and so they are among the most fun topics to tutor.

A great Chemistry tutor and confidence builder

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I am definitely making an exception this time. My daughter was really struggling with high school honors Chemistry. Ms LouAnn was able to figure out my daughter blind spots and help her understand Chemistry in a way that her teacher couldn’t, which ultimately instilled confidence in my daughter that she could do well in Chemistry. My daughter would look forward to her sessions with her and let me say that her grade dramatically improved. I can’t thank her enough for what she did for her. It was the difference maker and I highly recommend her.

Incredible tutor!

Even though I booked same-day, Ms. LouAnn came prepared to our lesson with numerous materials and was able to help me with homework problems she previously hadn't seen. I will definitely be working with her again!

Excellent tutor

LouAnn is an excellent tutor. She is an AP chemistry teacher and knows the material inside and out. She explains it well and my daughter had a great experience with her. We plan to have her tutor my daughter weekly for the academic year. Highly recommended!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review! I really appreciate it. I had a great time getting to know Ana and look forward to our future lessons.

Knowledgeable and patient!

Great tutor! She explains chemistry in a clear, simple way that actually makes the concepts click. I’ve gained a lot of confidence since starting sessions. Highly recommend for anyone who wants patient, effective help. She explains then we do a problem together then if i get it wrong she corrects in a positive way.
