I love learning. As a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, I know that opportunity and success looks an awful lot like hard work paying off. As the founding tutor for the Biology Lab and tutoring program and serving several semesters in the Nursing Program's student learning lab at Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University), I have had the extreme pleasure of helping thousands of students achieve their scholastic goals, realize their own potential, and take great joy in seeing their grades soar. Aside from being a mom, this is the most rewarding thing I've ever done.

I specialize in tutoring Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Genetics, Microbiology, Pathophysiology, Radiology, elementary math thru Algebra1, General Chemistry, English, Reading, and history for all grades. No matter the subject under review, my goal for each session is to work with the student on their current lesson assignments as well as preparing for upcoming topics and constantly review for exams. I customize each session to the student's unique needs, gauging and matching the student's learning style. At the student and/or parent's request, I am prepared to assign homework after each lesson as well as provide periodic progress reports.

I am fully qualified to tutor students of all grade levels, having successfully tutored students ages 4 years through 78 years in various subjects, including, but not limited to, elementary math, reading, computer skills, writing/English, science, history, and social studies. I excel at clarifying subjects where a student struggles, and adding challenges to keep students engaged when needed. I am comfortable working within the lessons the student receives within their coursework (homework help) as well as adding outside material to help solidify the concepts currently being studied.

Having utilized tutors myself in the past, I hold myself to an incredibly high standard, treating each tutoring opportunity as if I were the student and asking what I would want out of my tutor. My policy is to never bill for a session for which the student and parent are not completely satisfied. My many years as a student have also given me a crystal clear understanding of the budgetary issues with which may students and their families contend - I am open to discussing a flexible fee structure (to a point) if that is the only roadblock standing in the way of my helping a student to their highest success. I am also a very firm believer in the principle that as humans we place a higher value on that for which we strive the hardest and will allow neither myself nor my services nor my student's efforts to be sold cheap.

I know that students today have little free time and I treat the student's time as my own - precious. While I try to be as flexible as possible, I do have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. I am ultimately and fully committed to my students' success.

To ensure that students have a place to study that is conducive to learning, I work primarily out of the Pikes Peak Library District's study rooms, and therefore primarily during library hours. I am happy to travel to the Pikes Peak Library District Branch that works best for my students, though traveling more than my specified radius or after hours does incur an additional fee and can be worked out on a case-by-case basis. The East, Penrose, and Library 21c branches have rooms for reservation and are the most accessible in the city, though the others can work if scheduling far enough in advance.

Online lessons are a great way for students to learn when distances seem insurmountable. I am very well versed in Wyzant's online interface and am incredibly willing to meet with my students online. Since the start of 2016, I have been one of the top 3 tutors in Colorado Springs, with regular online sessions from Maine to California, Texas to Wisconsin.

I look forward to helping you achieve your goals as you complete your education and am honored that you would consider allowing me to assist you in such an important investment in your future.

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I am passionate about helping students of all ages gain a firm comprehension of our world and how it works and really the best place for anyone to start is in Math. From counting, telling time, and making correct change (without a calculator!) to plotting equations and predicting scientific outcomes, Math is where it all starts. I have been helping youngsters understand math's first principles since I was in junior high (before 1996) and can't wait to introduce your student to all the mysteries and amazing discoveries a solid foundation in math can reveal.

History

American History,

American History

I have always loved history and am thrilled to live in such a dynamic country with such a vivid history. Traditional history learning is about memorizing dates and names, but I know history to be the bright, enchanting story of all of us - and I am excited to help you see History come alive. With excellent scores in all of my history classes, from general Civics to AP American History and even college-level Constitutional Theory, I have been gifted with a wide and deeply grounded comprehension of where we have been. Come with me to discover where our history will take us.
Anthropology,

Anthropology

I completed 24 hours anthropology study in undergrad. I was in the top 10 in each of my 6 classes. Topics mastered were evolutionary/archaeological anthropology, civilization/societal development, comparative religion as an anthropological tool, and America as a foreign culture.
Government & Politics

Government & Politics

Want to know the scariest sentence in the English language? "Don't worry - I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Love it or hate it, our government is arguably the best version of government to spring from the mind of man - so far. I have been an avid student of citizenship, governance, and the various methods by which man has ruled his peers since I first understood that our government had something to do with me - and all of us- or roughly since about 1994. My education in politics and governance has been rigorous, with AP Civics my freshman year of high school and lead me to join the Student Government in College.

Nursing

Nursing

I have 900+ hours experience tutoring nursing and pre-nursing students both in person and online. I have enough understanding of nursing school procedures and requirements that while I as in my B.S. in Biology undergrad studies at Mesa State College, I was asked to work in the nursing lab to help nursing students with their courses. I was also the founding tutor for the Biology Studies tutoring lab, where I was the chief pre-nursing tutor, preparing struglling pre-nursing students for the rigors of one of the top nursing programs in the state. I have the unique ability to prepare students to become student nurses as well as work with nursing students to understand the often challenging and complex material to become effective health-care professionals by engaging the critical thinking skills that the profession requires but is often not required until entry into nursing programs nation wide.

I have over 20 credit hours in undergraduate and graduate level course work in botany, plant anatomy, cellular biology, and genetics. Genetics,

Genetics

I have extensive experience with genetics: 18 credit hours during my B.S. studies (finishing in the ton 10% of all classes and labs), as well as 300+ hours tutoring undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate level students in genetics and cellular biology - all of whom finished in the top 25% of their classes. I am the perfect genetics tutor for those needing to understand the concepts and intricacies of genetics and how the genome interacts with the world.
Microbiology,

Microbiology

My eye has been glued to a microscope since Christmas of 1990 - I received my first Fischer-Price microscope and haven't been able to live without a microscope close at hand since! Microbiology courses in high school and college, all with grades in the 96th percentile, have only served to fan the flames. Lab protocols and tests, and interpretation of often irreconcilable results are especially fun and Bergey's Manual is my idea of a "light read".

Wonderful across the board

Rebecca helped me through the hardest parts of my national boards exams. She helped me see things more clearly and really lock in the info I already had learned. She allows you to set the pace and is always prepared for each session.

Wonderful, Spectacular, Knowledgeable, & a Saving Grace

Words cannot describe the overall experience I have had with Rebecca thus far. I am a senior nursing student approaching my last semester and I am confident in saying that Rebecca has changed my nursing school experience. To start she is extremely wonderful and spectacular in the ways that she supports you. Regardless of my progress or status in my classes, Rebecca offers encouraging words and support from session to session. I have never had a tutor that I felt truly, truly cared about your outcome in your life as well as school career. She is extremely knowledgeable in the information that she provides. I feel that Rebecca preps for every single session, always having charts and information readily available to send and share with my to amplify my learning experience. She knows when to add in more information and she knows when to step back and let me try and work through a thought process. When she corrects anything I say it is reassuring and informative at the same time. On top of all of that greatness, I feel that she has earthly knowledge, real world experience, as well as textbook information that she combines to make sure that you as the student see the main points as well as the overall picture. Lastly, Rebecca is a saving grace to us students and this is one of the main reasons why EVERYONE should at least try out a session with Rebecca. She sets aside family time and her personal life to always be flexible for your study sessions and even individual questions throughout the week. I started sessions with her at the beginning of my last year of nursing school when I was starting to feel tired and down on myself. With the little time I spent with her from week to week, I felt that I was always gaining a better grasp on my knowledge and owning the learning experiences that I had under my belt.

Passionate and knowledgeable tutor

We reached out to Rebecca for additional help with my son’s microbiology lectures. She has been nothing but supportive and understanding and have been flexible and accommodating with the lessons, especially given we were already towards the end of the semester. Rebecca has helped my son get a deeper understanding of the material and have been a solid sounding board for the enormous amount of material covered. With finals around the corner, my son appreciates Rebecca’s sessions and feels better knowing she is available to him even for last minute questions. She makes the time as she truly cares about the students she is helping.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Rebecca really helped me study for my Hesi A2 test. She was super cooperative and really was there to help me and encouraged me through the whole studying process. She knew so much and had no issue with any subject matter I brought up. She helped explain my questions and gave me alot of practice problems. She also helped give me some better studying techniques. Amazing tutor and great person overall! I will be calling on her again in the Future!!

Great tutor!

Rebecca is open to all questions and allows the student to guide the discussion. She uses a great deal of every day examples that help solidify the material.

Highly Qualified and Intelligent

Truthfully, I don’t even know where to begin with regards to introducing just how much I owe this human. In June of 2016 I was admitted into a Somatic Counseling Master’s program, on the condition that I pass Anataomy/Kinesthesiology (as mandated by the American Dance Therapy Association). After speaking with the program directors it was suggested to me that I enroll in the Brigham Young University online Anatomy course; I was asked to complete the course or I could not enter the program. Had I known that I had made the awful decision to register for a course intended to be self-paced and an estimated time completion of a year and a half from the start date, rest assured this would have been amended quickly. Unfortunately the course had been paid for already, and I naturally, was stuck dealing with the consequences. I came across Rebecca when I determined that I needed a tutor to attain a year and a half’s worth of anatomy material in three months time. When I conveyed this plan to Rebecca I was not met with laughter or even a suggestion to put off grad school (a rhetoric I’d heard from most everyone I spoke to about my plan). As crazy as it may sound, Rebecca went all-the-way, fully into the experience with me. To help you create a picture in your head of how this looked, Rebecca and I spent a minimum of an hour and a half per day, literally. Rebecca’s job title did not mandate that she LITERALLY teach me the material; and yet, she did. A highly qualified, fiercely intelligent and driven woman, Rebecca took on the role of not only my tutor but my teacher, my support system and advocate. At times, I will humbly state that I leaned on her for emotional support in a way that I have never experienced prior to our tutoring sessions. Hell, sometime in the third month I’m fairly certain I spent an hour of our session just crying. While this may sound shocking, like, “Why would she pay to cry? This isn’t therapy, I’m looking for a tutor”, I know feasibly, that if Rebecca had not been able to fascinate this variety of learning for me, I would have probably failed the course and therefore, not have been admitted into my program. Yes, I did the work. No, Rebecca did not take the exams for me. Yes, expectations and boundaries were put in place and emphasized throughout our entire time working together. However, what makes Rebecca so truly, unique as a tutor is her authentic desire to fascilitate every facet in which you could process new material (i.e. visual aids, verbal dissections, auditory material, cognitive analysis, etc.). In my 6+ years of higher education I have not met someone so dedicated to matching my learning style as Rebecca. If you have a tangible goal surrounding attaining scientific knowledge (and perhaps in a particularly timely fashion), there really is no better tutor for you than Rebecca. I can saw with 100% sincerity that if it were not for Rebecca’s assistance throughout the summer of 2016, there would be no chance of my being currently be enrolled in a Master’s level program.

Very knowledgeable and helpful

Rebecca is an excellent tutor. After one lesson with her I feel comfortable and more confident with material that I had been struggling with for four weeks. She makes excellent examples, is easy to understand, and is very knowledgeable. Biology/Botany is not easy to condense, but she did an excellent job and gave a lot of helpful tips.

Best Physio tutor ever

I started out this semester wondering how best to learn my physio lectures and understand the concepts. Not an easy tasks and decided to hire a tutor for help. After doing a lengthy search, I found Wyzant and Rebecca. To my absolute surprise, I found a tutor that not only understands the material but easily fell right into my learning style and has gotten me up to speed and prepared me for my weekly lectures as well as exams. We meet several times a week and Rebecca is so fluid that she follows my thought process from area to theory without missing a step. This semester wouldn't be such a success without her help!!! Thank you Rebecca! I highly recommend her to anyone needing extra support and encouragement.
