Teaching others is truly my number one calling. I've been doing so for nearly 20 years and have worked with students of all levels, from elementary to advanced college. I started as a peer chemistry tutor while working on my Bachelor's degree at CSU in Ft. Collins and went on to lead the IB and AP chemistry programs at Rampart High School in Colorado Springs after earning a Master's degree in science education from Colorado College. After nine years teaching at Rampart, I became the Head of the Science Department at the US Air Force Academy Preparatory School, where I currently serve an extraordinarily diverse group of students today.

I am highly skilled at working with students of all ability levels in one-on-one or group settings, and absolutely live for the "ah-ha!" moments that happen when science is suddenly "de-mystified." As someone who struggled to learn chemistry myself throughout my high school and early college years, I love being able to share my unique, time-tested strategies with others as they work to master this notoriously tricky subject. Having taught over 4,000 students in my lifetime - from those who may consider it hopeless to those that seem to have been born experts - I can say with 100% confidence that ANYONE can learn this subject, and my role is to help you get there. Many of my students have moved on to earn their PhDs, become practicing physicians, or even become chemistry teachers themselves. Almost none of these individuals considered themselves to be any good at chemistry prior to enrolling in my class, or even particularly interested in it.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology from Colorado State University, with minors in biochemistry and microbiology. I graduated in the top 1% of my class of over 3,000 and was fortunate enough to intern with the Centers for Disease Control, USDA Crops Research Laboratory, and even Walt Disney World's integrated pest management team on site in Orlando FL. My undergraduate coursework includes a wide variety of science disciplines including a complete host of advanced chemistry courses, physics, human gross anatomy, zoology, microbiology, and biochemistry.

After working in research, I discovered that my true passion in life is outside of the lab, fostering a curiosity for science in others. This drove me to earn a Master's degree in education, which in turn allowed me to become a teacher at the high school and college levels and inspire the next generation of leaders in science and engineering. This makes me uniquely qualified as a highly skilled educator that also possesses a robust working knowledge of all scientific disciplines.

You've found your tutor - I'm happy to come to you, meet you at the local library or coffee house, work online, or do whatever I can to help you learn this subject. Please don't hesitate to call if you have questions about my qualifications or want to schedule lessons. I'm available weekends as well as weekday evenings, so my schedule can be flexible to accommodate your needs.

Chemistry

I have 12 years experience teaching chemistry at the high school and college levels, including AP, IB, honors, and college general chemistry I and II. I've also completed over 50 credit hours in chemistry and closely-related subjects as part of my undergraduate program in molecular biology and biochemistry at Colorado State University, with a cumulative GPA in these courses of 3.95. I currently head the science department at the US Air Force Academy Preparatory School, and our primary focus in this department is general chemistry with an emphasis in helping students transition from their high school chemistry course to the rigorous course they will enroll in at the Academy. In addition to demanding highly effective, diversified instruction, one of my chief responsibilities in this position is to design and execute an adaptive chemistry program for students of all abilities and backgrounds.

Organic Chemistry

I took two classes in organic chemistry as part of my undergraduate work toward my degree in Molecular Biology and biochemistry and scored a high A in both. I went on to teach the subject as the director of the AP and IB chemistry programs as a high school chemistry teacher for 9 years. Organic chemistry features prominently in IB chemistry in particular.

Awesome Chemistry Tutor - Highly recommended

Kevin taught my daughter over a month as she was having a hard time with Honors Chem. Because of Kevin, she really understood the concepts where she was confused at her class and I could see the real difference in her confidence level. She could raise her grade by one level - THIS HAPPENED ONLY DUE TO KEVIN and she owes it completely to him. Kevin took time out of his family vacation so that he can answer her questions before her final examination, we truly owe Kevin a lot for this...I highly recommend Kevin for Chem classes, he is the best teacher!!

Knowledgeable tutor, understands his subjects

I gained a better understanding of the steps to successfully complete my chemistry work He’s understanding & offers great options to learning. I’ve so far had a couple of sessions. He’s easy to learn from which is really nice.

Outstanding Teacher!

Kevin really understands chemistry! I listened to the first few minutes of his lecture and having taken gen chemistry and organic chemistry myself years ago, it was very clear to me that Kevin is an exceptional teacher with a great way of explaining difficult concepts. My son’s response after the lesson was that Kevin is really good and helped him understanding a month’s worth of materials in one day and he ended up getting a 90 on his test. Both my twins ended up with As on the test and both said they wished he was their teacher in school. We will definitely continue with him.

Knowledgeable Chemistry Tutor

Kevin went above and beyond to fill the knowledge gap my son had three weeks before the AP Chemistry test. My son had a lot more confidence after a few lessons with Kevin. I highly recommend Kevin for anyone who needs better understanding of Chemistry.

Very Helpful and Knowledgeable

Kevin helped me understand the concepts behind buffers and titrations. Kevin even had the Ka and Kb constants for acids and bases in the problems we worked memorized!

Very knowledgeable

He was great with my son. Very patient! My son learned more from Kevin in one session then he has in 6 months of class. We will definitely use him again in the near future.

Awesome Tutor!

My son has gotten clarity on the subject discussed with just two lessons so far. We look forward to our weekly sessions with Kevin.

Helpful and knowledgeable

Kevin helped my son with buffers, acids and bases, and equilibrium. He knew the topics extremely well and even helped my son understand the difficult problems on the AP test that related to his chapter. I would highly recommend Kevin to anyone who needs help with Chemistry.
