In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have over ten years of experience working with students who have dyslexia in both the classroom setting as well as tutoring. I hold a master's degree in education and over thirty six hours of credits in teaching students with reading and writing difficulties.
Students with dyslexia will benefit by the teacher using a multisensory approach in their methods of instruction. This can be done by using the visual, auditory and tactile to assist in learning the reading and writing process. Children with dyslexia need explicit, systematic, and cumulative instruction in order to achieve the highest level of success in their schoolwork.

I have spent many summers volunteering my services to programs in the San Luis Valley of Colorado that teach English to ESL children and adults. In addition, I have personal experience in the process as I was in an ESL program as an elementary and secondary student. As a bilingual teacher, I have the knowledge of how to instruct in the specifics of the English language to include phonics, reading, and writing in a manner that best serves an individual who is learning a second language. In my teaching assignments I had ESL students in my classroom as well as assisted in the ESL classroom at my school.
I have taught reading as both an educator and volunteer for close to 15 years.
