I'm Leo, a UCLA Honors College graduate with a proven track record of helping students excel across STEM and humanities subjects. For over six years, I've taught students privately and in classroom settings, from elementary school through college, specializing in sciences (physics, chemistry, biology), mathematics (algebra through calculus), writing, and standardized testing (SAT, LSAT, and SSAT).

At UCLA, I double majored in philosophy and economics while leading UCLA's largest sustainability organization and advising the UC system Chief Sustainability Officer. My professional roles include positions at the EPA and Nestle, and most recently, as Head of Growth at a social-media startup. I've been accepted to Harvard Law School's class of 2029 through their Junior Deferral Program.

Having navigated competitive magnet schools and early college programs before UCLA, I understand the pressures students face in demanding academic environments. My goal is to help students build both their academic capabilities and resilience to setbacks as they work toward their goals. My students consistently improve their grades by at least one letter grade, and report increased confidence in their problem-solving abilities. I tailor my teaching methods to each student's learning style, emphasizing both conceptual understanding and practical application.

Available for both one-on-one and small group sessions. I welcome questions about my teaching approach or experience with specific subjects.

Leo transformed my son's SSAT test anxiety

We hired Leo to work with our son for the SSAT, and he was wonderful. He's always been a strong student but standardized tests make him freeze up. The first practice test was rough - he scored in the 60th percentile and needed at least 85th for the schools on his list. Leo had this perfect balance of being warm but also pushing him to do his best. He made vocabulary drills into games (I still hear him using some of those words at dinner), and he taught him how to tackle the reading passages without getting bogged down. The math section was actually above grade level, and he was great at teaching concepts his school hadn't covered yet without making him feel behind. What I appreciated most was his communication with me. He'd send a quick text after each session with what they worked on and what he should practice that week. He was also realistic about score expectations and helped us adjust our school list to include some great options we hadn't considered. He ended up scoring in the 91st percentile and got into his top choice school with a partial scholarship. Leo made the whole process so much less stressful for our family. He even checked in after acceptances came out to congratulate him. Can't recommend him enough to other parents going through this process!

LSAT: Broke through my 160s plateau

I'm not someone who usually writes reviews, but I had to for Leo. I'd been self-studying for the LSAT for months using prep books and was stuck at 162. I needed at least a 168 for the schools I was targeting, and I was starting to panic since I only had two test attempts left. Six weeks later, I hit 171. The difference was night and day. Leo zeroed in on my weak spots immediately like falling for trap answers in reading comp because I wasn't being precise enough about what the passage actually said versus what seemed reasonable. He also assigned targeted drills between sessions and actually checked that I was doing them correctly. If you're on the fence about getting a tutor, just do it. I wasted so much time trying to study alone. Leo is a good investment - the scholarship money I got from my score increase more than covered his fee.

Game-changer for my SAT score - wish I'd found him sooner!

Leo literally saved my SAT score. I was bombing every practice test and honestly thought I was just bad at standardized tests. He helped me realize I was overthinking everything - especially the reading passages where I'd talk myself out of the right answer every single time. Instead of just drilling practice problems like my last tutor, he taught me how to recognize trick answers and manage my time better. Plus he made the math section actually make sense for once. I went from a 1280 to a 1480, which helped get me into my dream school. Best part was he didn't make me feel dumb for not getting something right away. Super chill but also kept me accountable when I tried to slack off. 10/10 would recommend to anyone stressing about the SAT.

Best bio tutor I could ask for

I can't say enough good things about Leo's tutoring. When I started my intro bio course, I was really overwhelmed by all the material we needed to learn. Leo's help is so useful, especially when it came to preparing for my midterm. What I really appreciate about his teaching style is how he takes the concepts and makes them make sense instead of just throwing information at you and expecting it to stick. When I struggle with certain concepts, Leo takes the time to explain them in different ways until it makes sense. Thanks to his help, I not only did well on my midterm but actually started enjoying the subject a lot more. I honestly look forward to our tutoring sessions now. If you're taking a biology course and feeling frustrated, I highly recommend working with Leo.
