Having a life-long compulsion to rearrange everything possible until a certain harmony is achieved has served me well through many jobs over the last fifteen years, mostly in the capacity of art director, set decorator or prop stylist. Over the last five years, I have been studying and working at mastering non-linear digital video and graphics software.
Three years ago, I secured funds to spend on a minimal budget developing, writing, creating sets, puppets, costumes, casting, audio recording, filming, compositing, adding graphics, music and editing Dance Party Satellite, a pilot sizzle reel intended for kids. I describe it as a hybrid of The Muppet Show and Soul Train, combining together live-action, and puppet performers.
I have just finished spending the Summer teaching workshops on photography and movie making to fifth through eighth-grade students. Talking about shutter speeds, aperture settings, lighting setups, props, costumes, scripts, cameras, storyboards, then actually filming and manipulating those images and sounds with an editing program was a challenge, to say the least, but truly inspiring as well.
My goal, working toward the future, is to secure steady employment which will both use and expand my experience as an art director and project manager while creating opportunity to work directly with different cameras as I develop a portfolio of both still photography and live-action camerawork.
In addition to my interest in production, I continue to nurture a passion for mastering current post-production software for graphics, animation and editing, as I create a body of work which reflects my talent, interests and life experiences. Thank you for taking time to consider my application.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor and Master's degree in Fine Art From CalArts. I have used drawing and sketching as a key tool for fifteen years professionally to problem solve and design custom props and sets. Also, I just love drawing! Drawing is the first step in a detailed creative plan.
I have worked as an art director and set decorator for over fifteen years. I have recently finished teaching movie making workshops to middle schoolers for the past summer and loved it. I was the lead man for the art department on the feature film, "The Minus Man", starring Owen Wilson.
I have just finished teaching photography and movie making workshops for the past seven weeks. Middle school students learned shutter speeds, aperture settings, learned how to handle equipment, shoot outdoor and in a studio, then uploaded images to Photoshop to manipulate. Student work was printed and presented to parents each Friday in a gallery show. Some amazing work was produced!
I have been creating videos since art school in the late eighties, my passion grows as current technology makes anything imagined possible. As a set decorator, I have been creating sets and props for television, film and still photography for my entire adult life. In college, I was the go-to guy to film any performance. I continue to study current video and graphics editing and animation software, always wanting to update skills. My current personal project is a science fiction kids show which I am adapting for a live theater experience.
