Hi! I will be graduating with my B.S. in Biochemistry with honors in May, after which I will be pursuing a PhD in Plant Biology from UC Berkeley. I have taken four years of college biology and chemistry courses and have tutored in several capacities for the past seven years, including working with several students with learning disabilities.
I am eager to tutor courses from AP Chemistry through Biochemistry, as well as AP through college Biology. I have served as an undergraduate TA for Organic and Biochemistry, as well as tutoring for both. I have also been the residence hall General and Organic Chemistry tutor at my school for three years. Finally, I have won the American Chemical Society Award for Excellence in Biochemistry and for Outstanding Performance in Organic Chemistry for my local chapter.
I have also gained biochemical research experience that makes me a uniquely qualified tutor. I have 10 peer-reviewed scientific publications in biochemistry, and was named a Goldwater Scholar last year. As a result of this deep immersion, I am uniquely able to contextualize chemistry to make it relevant to the students I tutor. This skillset is one that makes me a great tutor and helps me reach students who need assistance with motivation and engagement.
I find it most effective to identify those learning strategies best suited to each student. Often, this includes providing alternative explanations as well as providing concrete real-world anchors for abstract concepts. I additionally find that empowering students to find their way to the answers while providing support and guidance is particularly effective and allows students to grow both academically and in self-confidence through their coursework. I excel in providing useful, tried and true study methods for difficult courses and personalizing them to students of varying learning styles and starting points. I am eager to bring my tools to the table and work with you or your student to meet their needs efficiently and effectively!
