Hi, my name is Raymond. Currently, I’m an undergraduate at UC Berkeley, double majoring in computer science and philosophy. If I could, I would probably study in even more subjects, but there’s only so much time in one’s life. That’s why I think a good teacher is so important, since they can teach someone something in an hour that would have taken them days to learn by themselves. In my mind, what makes a good teacher is someone who inspires the student to enjoy and explore the subject themselves. Even though teachers may offer the crucial pieces of information that clears away the problems that students have, the students must first be thinking about those problems to begin with. This is the idea I base my tutoring style upon, being a friend and helper to students first, pedant and scholar second.
I have had considerable experience working in grade school education: I volunteered four years in a community program helping children with homework and facilitating enrichment programs such as multimedia art; I freelanced as a college essay editor for one year; and currently, I am an online tutor for the platform Learn2Code, where I teach basic coding skills in python and other programming languages to a similar age group. The students I worked with always surprised me with their own innovations and creativity, and it was a great joy to be able to help them achieve their own intellectual undertakings.
I believe communication is key to any good relationship, and value any comments or suggestions about my teaching that would better suit the occasion. I check my email daily and will provide fast responses to any inquiries you may have. My schedule is pretty flexible
