More On Johanna's Subjects:

  • general computer

As a middle school teacher with 100 students, I rely heavily on email to communicate with parents. I got 99 email addresses, but one parent didn't have one. She had never even touched a computer. I invited her in after school and taught her the basics of using the computer - from clicking the mouse, opening a word processing document, saving a document, and setting up an email account. I was also selected this year to lead teacher professional development in technology, and I taught co-workers how to design their own web pages using a software program called Dreamweaver. My computer knowledge is varied, and I can teach the basics and more advanced material comfortably.

  • powerpoint

Many students today are visual learners, so I often use PowerPoint to introduce a lesson and get students interested. In addition, I teach my middle school students how to use PowerPoint each year. I am experienced importing graphics and video, and I know how to grab the audience's attention with a well-thought out presentation. I was taught that PowerPoint means "the pwer of the point." This means that the electronic piece is just a guideline; you are still giving a presentation without reading every word from the screen.
