 About Fernan:
Washington DC young professional available to tutor evenings and weekends in physics finance, math (calculus, linear algebra, differential equations), economics (micro or macro, beginning to advanced), and statistics/econometrics. Also PC, MS Office, and STATA. In college I studied Electronics Engineering but switched midway and received a BA in Economics and a BS in Business Administration from UC Berkeley. Recently I finished a rigorous MA in International Development Economics and Public Policy at Harvard. Spanish in my first language and I am fluent in Portuguese. I’ve tutored math and physics on and off and while going to school. At Berkeley I tutored both subjects at the Student Resource Center. I enjoy teaching one-on-one and many of my students have said that I am very good at it. I try to appeal to intuition and make things relatively simple by following a clear and solid logic and “dividing and conquering” problems using simple methods. Also, I try to relate new concepts to previously acquired knowledge to enhance understanding and retention. Finally, I make an effort to ‘go down’ to the student level and using common terms and real world examples. I am friendly, easygoing, and patient and I am good at building good rapport with people. This came very handy last summer at Duke University, where I was a teaching assistant of a graduate microeconomics course.
