Princeton University (English Program 5)
Hi everyone!! I'm a Princeton Graduate (AB English Program 5: Theatre and Dance) and professional Equity actress. I've been tutoring for 10 years, and I specialize in Latin, particularly the first 3 years and mastering basics of grammar, construction and translation. I also frequently tutor English literature, writing/essays, and Regents test prep and I coach theatre: monologues, songs, and Shakespeare.
I love teaching, and I'm especially passionate about Latin and Shakespeare. I recognize that every student has different strengths and weaknesses and everyone needs an individualized approach. I balance humor with rigidity and my students always enjoy our sessions. However, I get proven results, even with the toughest cases. I believe in igniting in students an excitement for learning as well as the necessary skills they need to improve on paper and tests. I believe most extraordinarily in the power of positive reinforcement and encouragement, and nothing bolsters faltering students better than consistent improvement.
I studied Latin at Boston Latin School for 6 years, getting 5's on both Latin AP Virgil and Horace/Catullus. I studied it for all four years I was at Princeton as well, though I decided to major in English. As an actress, I studied at the London Academy of Dramatic Art, and also graduated from the Academy of Classical Acting at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA. I've worked all over the country, including off-Broadway in NYC (59e59, the Clurman, Pershing Square Signature Centre) and extensive regional credits (Kennedy Center, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Public Theatre Maine, Florida Studio Theatre, New Repertory Theatre, and Speakeasy Stage among many others.) I believe in an ongoing process of learning in my own life, and am beginning the process of getting designated in the Linklater Voice technique. I love teaching, and I look forward to working with some of you. Hi everyone!! I'm a Princeton Graduate (AB English Program 5: Theatre and Dance) and professional Equity actress. It's been 3 sessions and my child is more confident after going over the material
with Sarah. She is energetic, enthusiastic and shows a passion for Latin. She is a great teacher.
We only wish there were more instructors like her in the school system.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a professional Actor's Equity actress who has been working steadily for 10 years. Credits include 59e59, the Clurman and the Signature off Broadway and Alabama Shakespeare Festival. I graduated from Princeton a University with a degree in English and Theatre. I am a graduate of the Shakespeare & Company Conservatory for Classical Acting and have also studied at LAMDA. I currently take Craig Carnelia's musical theatre acting class and am adept at teaching and performing both straight non-musical theatre and musicals. I coach my professional friends regularly for auditions and also coach teenage clients. I know what conservatory programs are looking for and also know how to make the coaching process exciting, liberating and motivating. I love making people better at what they do.
