I am a recent graduate of Seattle University where I received a degree in BA in Economics and a BA degree in Philosophy. My formal tutoring experience began in my Junior year, when I was asked to work at the university's Learning Center. I tutored Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Statistics. My extensive writing experience comes from a Great Books based education while in the University Honors program at Seattle U. I also booked extensive hours peer-editing fellow students papers.
My tutoring philosophy stems from a desire to understand what interests each student, and what learning style is most effective and enjoyable for each individual. My enjoyment for tutoring comes from the challenge given to my own understanding as I seek to find the most fitting way for a student to learn, retain, and discuss material. I have always been, and hope to always be, a passionate learner. Any chance I receive to pass that joy along is a worthwhile experience.
When not tutoring, I work at a non-profit in Northeast Seattle. I can also be found in any number of coffee shops, or lounging with my feline friend, Marceline.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, with Honors, from Seattle University.
During my undergraduate education, I took extensive amount of Literature, History, and Philosophy courses in the University Honors program. There was a great focus on the literary greats. I have always had a keen eye for drawing out the inner works of texts, sentences, and words.
I have taken college level courses in both propositional logic, and in modal logic, with satisfactory completion of both. My current experience comes from studying for the LSAT, though my strengths lie in the teasing out of propositions within arguments.
My current experience in proofreading comes mostly from freelance work. Recent projects include editing a one-act play for a Senior Project, a Developmental Economics piece (prior to being sent to a publisher), and resume and cover letter consultation and editing.
I have the combined experience of being a college level tutor in Economics, and also being a Freshman student mentor for multiple years, while pursuing my bachelors degree. During that time, I participated in quarterly trainings, monthly meetings, and one-on-one support consisting of focused discussions about student development in the areas of organization, studying, test-taking, transitioning to life in and during college, and social/education life balance issues.
My most recent experience, aside from blogging and writing for business, was in the re-imagination of my personal writing process during college (e.g. moving from free-form writing, to structured process for research papers). I have worked with peers on cultivating ideas, all the way from an outline to a full paper. I also have extensive skill on brainstorming and problem-solving, in terms of writing.
