Hello,

I am a native Japanese speaker. I came from Japan to US 12 years ago and I have been teaching/tutoring Japanese to children and adults for about 7 years. Currently, I teach at two language schools, a preschool and an elementary school as after school program language instructor. When I teach Japanese to young children, I try to speak to them in Japanese as much as possible. I use gestures and repeat the same words and expressions many times. For older children and adults, I use some English when they have difficulty in understanding or when I explain grammatical rules etc, but still I try to communicate in Japanese.

I am able to teach Russian language, too. Before I came to US, I taught Russian at universities in Japan for 3 years. I am good at teaching Russian to beginners, since I learned Russian as a foreign language, and I can explain grammatical rules in a systematic way. My major in Kyoto University Graduate School, from which I received a Ph.D in 2005, was Russian language study. My Russian speaking skill is as good as reading and writing skill, since I studied in Russia for one year when I was a student and I keep practicing speaking Russian since then. Actually, I speak Russian every day at home as well as Japanese.

Thank you,

Yuko

Japanese,

Japanese

I have been teaching and tutoring my native language Japanese to adults and children around Seattle for more than 7 years. Currently, I teach and tutor Japanese almost everyday - at a preschool, a university, a public school (after school program), coffee shops, libraries and student's houses. I majored in Russian language and linguistics both in undergraduate and graduate and the knowledge of languages and experiences have been helping me to teach Japanese with confidence.
Russian

Russian

My occupation back in Japan was Russian language teacher at Universities. I started learning Russian at Kyoto Sangyo University when I was 18 years old. After graduation, I entered Kyoto University Graduate School to study Russian language and linguistics more. In 2005, I received a Ph.D degree. Although I am not a native speaker, I speak Russian well, since I studied Russian at a language school and a university in Moscow for about a year and I still use Russian at home every day.

Immersive Japanese teaching I can understand

Yuko is very nice and easy to talk to. Something I like most about her classes is that she would talk to mostly in Japanese the entire time. This gave me lots of good conversation practice, and when we come to something I don’t know or understand she will explain it to me. She is very adaptable and will change her teaching style to fit your needs. Tutoring with Yuko is a great experience. After every class I feel like I am improving.

Tutor responded:

Thank you very much for the great review! Yes, you ARE improving and I think it is mostly because you study hard between our lessons. It has been a pleasure to help you. I look forward to meeting you next week for the next lesson.

A wonderful first lesson.

Yuko is very friendly and spends the time needed to find the right path for you. My wife and I are at very different levels with Japanese, and during our first meeting she worked with us both to find suitable lessons that would fit our needs. We both look forward to more lessons with Yuko.

Thank you, Jonathon, for such a great review! I am looking forward to meeting you and your wife for the second lesson soon.

Great Lesson!

Yuko is a really helpful tutor, and even in our one lesson I feel like I walked away with a lot. Yuko seemed genuinely excited every time I started to grasp a concept. I appreciated their sincerity and knowledge!

Extremely helpful and constructive

As someone that is learning Japanese in his own time, I reached out to Yuko to find a conversation partner as well as someone that could correct my grammar mistakes. Yuko took the lead and drove a comfortable, constructive conversation that was tailored around my progress. When I made mistakes, we would stop and discuss the correct grammar/vocabulary just long enough for me to get a firm grasp on the correction before proceeding. Before I knew it, we had spoken to each other in Japanese for nearly an hour. I'm looking forward to continued learning with Yuko. ありがとうございます, ゆこせんせい! Thank you, Yuko angel!

Thank you, Eric! I enjoyed our first lesson with you as well. It is always pleasure to work with a serious and motivated learner. I look forward to seeing you for the second lesson soon.

Excellent tutoring session

My goals were to improve my Japanese pronunciation and my listening and speaking skills. We discussed my goals and set up a plan to achieve them. I was very pleased with the tutoring session.

Thank you, David, for finding time to write a review for our firs lesson. I am glad to hear that you liked it. I will be looking forward to meeting you on Thursday for the second lesson.

Easy going but precise

Yuko was fun and down to earth tudor. She was personable and kind. She determined my level and focused on strengthening my Russian foundation. She was especially good at distinguishing the subtle differences in the sound of words and syllables. Thank you Yuko!

Yuko has been a fabulous tutor for the last few years for our son

We started having our son meet with Yuko weekly to speak Japanese a few years ago when his high school was unable to fit the appropriate Japanese class into his schedule. For two years, Aaron met every other week or so with Yuko, working on keeping his Japanese up to speed. This year, he jumped into the class he was supposed to be in two years ago and is heads and shoulders above the students who have been taking Japanese uninterrupted for the last few years. Yuko is patient, flexible, and incredibly conscientious. I cannot recommend her enough as a Japanese tutor.

Thank you, Denise, for your wonderful feedback. I enjoyed tutoring Japanese to your son a lot for the last few years. I wish him continued success in the future.

Knowledgeable and patient!

Yuko is a great tutor/teacher! Even with only one session we fixed so many little mistakes with spelling and grammar and I'm already feeling super confident! I look forward to many sessions in the future!
