Japanese/Russian tutor for all age - from young children to adults
I am a native Japanese speaker. I came from Japan to US 12 years ago and I have been teaching/tutoring Japanese to children and adults for about 7 years. Currently, I teach at two language schools, a preschool and an elementary school as after school program language instructor. I am a native Japanese speaker. I came from Japan to US 12 years ago and I have been teaching/tutoring Japanese to children and adults for about 7 years. Currently, I teach at two language schools, a preschool and an elementary school as after school program language instructor. When I teach Japanese to young children, I try to speak to them in Japanese as much as possible. I use gestures and repeat the same words and expressions many times. For older children and adults, I use some English when they have difficulty in understanding or when I explain grammatical rules etc, but still I try to communicate in Japanese.
I am able to teach Russian language, too. Before I came to US, I taught Russian at universities in Japan for 3 years. I am good at teaching Russian to beginners, since I learned Russian as a foreign language, and I can explain grammatical rules in a systematic way. My major in Kyoto University Graduate School, from which I received a Ph.D in 2005, was Russian language study. My Russian speaking skill is as good as reading and writing skill, since I studied in Russia for one year when I was a student and I keep practicing speaking Russian since then. Actually, I speak Russian every day at home as well as Japanese.
Excellent Japanese language tutor
Yuko understood my goals and quickly assessed my previous exposure to the language, and she was able to tailor the lessons to my needs. She is a patient and helpful teacher with a strong background in language instruction, and she understands what tends to be challenging for students. We used a textbook as a source of exercises, but Yuko integrated these into a conversational lesson and added material where she thought it would be useful for me. She was also flexible in regard to scheduling our meetings. I strongly recommend her as a tutor!Jeremy, 2 lessons with YukoTutor responded:
Thank you, Jeremy! I am so glad to hear that you liked my lessons. I enjoyed working with you a lot, as well. Have a great time in Japan!
A wonderful first lesson.
Yuko is very friendly and spends the time needed to find the right path for you. My wife and I are at very different levels with Japanese, and during our first meeting she worked with us both to find suitable lessons that would fit our needs. We both look forward to more lessons with Yuko.Jonathon, 8 lessons with YukoTutor responded:
Thank you, Jonathon, for such a great review! I am looking forward to meeting you and your wife for the second lesson soon.
Yuko is a really helpful tutor, and even in our one lesson I feel like I walked away with a lot. Yuko seemed genuinely excited every time I started to grasp a concept. I appreciated their sincerity and knowledge!Arika, 1 lesson with Yuko
Extremely helpful and constructive
As someone that is learning Japanese in his own time, I reached out to Yuko to find a conversation partner as well as someone that could correct my grammar mistakes. Yuko took the lead and drove a comfortable, constructive conversation that was tailored around my progress. When I made mistakes, we would stop and discuss the correct grammar/vocabulary just long enough for me to get a firm grasp on the correction before proceeding. Before I knew it, we had spoken to each other in Japanese for nearly an hour. I'm looking forward to continued learning with Yuko. ありがとうございます, ゆこせんせい! Thank you, Yuko angel!Eric, 3 lessons with YukoTutor responded:
Thank you, Eric! I enjoyed our first lesson with you as well. It is always pleasure to work with a serious and motivated learner. I look forward to seeing you for the second lesson soon.
Excellent tutoring session
My goals were to improve my Japanese pronunciation and my listening and speaking skills. We discussed my goals and set up a plan to achieve them. I was very pleased with the tutoring session.David, 12 lessons with YukoTutor responded:
Thank you, David, for finding time to write a review for our firs lesson. I am glad to hear that you liked it. I will be looking forward to meeting you on Thursday for the second lesson.
Easy going but precise
Yuko was fun and down to earth tudor. She was personable and kind. She determined my level and focused on strengthening my Russian foundation. She was especially good at distinguishing the subtle differences in the sound of words and syllables. Thank you Yuko!Donal, 1 lesson with YukoTutor responded:
Thank you Donal! I will be looking forward to hearing back from you and having the second lesson with you.
Yuko has been a fabulous tutor for the last few years for our son
We started having our son meet with Yuko weekly to speak Japanese a few years ago when his high school was unable to fit the appropriate Japanese class into his schedule. For two years, Aaron met every other week or so with Yuko, working on keeping his Japanese up to speed. This year, he jumped into the class he was supposed to be in two years ago and is heads and shoulders above the students who have been taking Japanese uninterrupted for the last few years. Yuko is patient, flexible, and incredibly conscientious. I cannot recommend her enough as a Japanese tutor.Denise, 44 lessons with YukoTutor responded:
Thank you, Denise, for your wonderful feedback. I enjoyed tutoring Japanese to your son a lot for the last few years. I wish him continued success in the future.
Knowledgeable and patient!
Yuko is a great tutor/teacher! Even with only one session we fixed so many little mistakes with spelling and grammar and I'm already feeling super confident! I look forward to many sessions in the future!Sadie, 6 lessons with YukoTutor responded:

Thank you Yuko, this was a great lesson and showed me that I need to review lessons 1 - 4 thoroughly and we can practice ?????? next time!Vince, 7 lessons with YukoTutor responded:

Yuko understood exactly what I was looking for in a lesson. She led the conversation and corrected my grammar and vocabulary gently but clearly. Highly recommended.Matthew, 29 lessons with YukoTutor responded:
