Dear Individual Looking for a Tutor,

I have a warm personality and people love to be around me, but I also know how to work hard and inspire others to do the same. I love learning and am lucky to have a thorough understanding of a variety of subjects. Furthermore, I have teaching experience as a substitute teacher in elementary school, junior high school and high school (which also includes an alternative high school). I have been a teacher's assistant for a college class and have experience helping students pursuing an undergraduate degree.

I graduated with my Associate's of Science degree at the same time I graduated with my high school diploma. I then went on to pursue a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from Brigham Young University. I love the sciences and would excel in tutoring for a number of science related classes including, general Biology, Ecology, Bioethics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Human Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Evolutionary Biology, Biological Anthropology, Astronomy and basic Physics. I would also be exceptionally good in tutoring for math classes such as, general math, Geometry, pre-Algebra, Algebra, Trigonometry and pre-Calculus.

Even though I completed both of my degrees in the sciences, I am a skilled writer and I read voraciously. I have always done well in Language Arts and would welcome the opportunity to tutor a student in English, reading, vocabulary and writing.

I understand everyone learns differently; what works for one child or teen doesn't necessarily work for another. I know positive reinforcement and patience and are vital components when helping a student to succeed, especially if the course material seems relatively easy and the student is still struggling. Nothing is more difficult then trying as hard as you can on a subject and still not getting anywhere, but nothing is more rewarding then finally understanding difficult material.

I would love for the opportunity to help your student and look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

Anthropology encompasses everything from the social and physical sciences to the humanities and history. My unique experience has given me a firm grasp on all these subjects. I have completed courses in Biological Anthropology and Evolutionary Biology, meaning I have a thorough understanding of the scientific portion of anthropology. I also understand the sociological and aesthetic side. While pursuing my undergraduate biology degree at Brigham Young University, I volunteered for the Museum Of Peoples and Cultures and the Museum of Art.

Elementary (K-6th)

Not only do I have a thorough understanding of the subjects taught throughout elementary school, I have experience as a substitute teacher at multiple elementary schools. I realize it isn't enough to just know the subjects, one has to be able to teach the subjects to children. I love working with children and feel I connect with them well. I am patient, hard working and fun.

Genetics

I began learning the fundamental principles of genetics as a high school senior by taking a biological anthropology class as part of an early college program. My understanding of genetics was further reinforced by completing university level genetics and evolutionary biology courses as part of my life science undergraduate degree.

Microbiology

As part of my undergraduate degree, I spent a year doing research in a pathogenic laboratory. This opportunity gave me hands on experience learning about and working with bacterial strains such as Pasturella Multocida and Bacillis Anthracis Sterne. Furthermore, to acquire this laboratory position I was required to present a paper on the bacterial strain Mycobacterium Ulcerans to the other lab members. I also had to write a paper at the end of every semester quantifying the results of my research.

Study Skills

Throughout my educational career I have developed and perfected exceptional study skills and techniques. I graduated with my associate's in science at the same time I graduated with my high school diploma. And I graduated with highest honors in both. I then went on to pursue a scientific undergraduate degree at a world-renowned university and graduated with a competitive grade point average. Moreover, I have completed a university course entitled "Succeeding in Academic Settings". I will use what I have learned to help you or your child succeed academically. While there are some techniques that work well in general, for example good organizational skills, everyone learns differently, and it is important to find the methods which work the best for each individual.
