I recently graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Operations Research Engineering; I moved to Plano for full-time employment.
I've tutored more than 60 students for more than 500 hours of total instruction in the DFW area in high school and collegiate subjects and standardized tests. I excelled in statistics in college and as a result was asked to teach for Cornell’s Learning Strategies Center (where I taught for 2 years). In Dallas, my emphasis has been on trigonometry, calculus and statistics.
In high school, students are often taught ‘how’ to attack a problem (memorization), but rarely do teachers shed light on the ‘why’ students are doing what they are doing. I believe that if students understand the ‘why,’ good grades and great test scores will follow suit. All students can learn math ‘tricks,’ but those who understand the ‘why’ can invent them. To this end I teach math.
Test and Coursework Credentials:
I scored 35/36 on ACT Math, 780/800 on SAT Math and 790/800 on GRE Quantitative. I have taken all math courses up to Calculus BC in high school and up to Stochastic Calculus in college.
Why do I tutor?
It's challenging and it's fun. I've found that as satisfying as it is to learn a difficult subject, and it is far more fulfilling to be able to give that knowledge to someone else. It's amazing how many students don't realize how intelligent they are until they've been taught in a way that accommodates their learning style. As I teach students new ways to learn, they teach me new ways to teach.
