About William

My passion for teaching began during my undergraduate years at University of Nebraska - Lincoln after tutoring dorm-mates and participating in the university’s approved teaching internship where I taught AP calculus and AP physics at two Lincoln high schools: Pius X and Parkview, on a prearranged, alternate basis, with a permanent S.T.E.M. faculty member (100+ verifiable hours). I received my Bachelor’s degree in physics with a minor in mathematics (Class of 2013) which includes algebra through college-level calculus I, II, III, multivariable calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and statistics. All my course work completed in the fields of mathematics and physics was required by my original agricultural engineering major specializing in circuits and sensors, which comprised the disciplines of electrical and mechanical engineering. This interest in teaching continues today as I regularly substitute teach at my local high school and tutor privately, as well as, tutor over 230 hours through Wyzant Tutoring Services predominately in mathematics and physics.
I can help you succeed in your academic challenges because of my broad background: mathematics, engineering, and physics coursework.
Mathematics Courses: algebra I and II, trigonometry, calculus I, II, and III (multivariable), differential equations, linear algebra (matrix theory), and statistics.
Engineering Courses: thermodynamics, statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, fluid power circuits and controls, MATLAB programming, material science engineering, electrical engineering, and laser optics engineering. Differential and integral calculus are used extensively in these courses.
Physics Courses: basic physics, AP physics B and C, mechanics: physics I for engineering, electricity and magnetism: physics II for engineers, solid state physics, and plasma physics including an aspect called relativistic plasma physics. Differential and integral calculus are used extensively in these courses.
My ability to transfer meaningful information to those calculus and physics classes derives not only from my four academic years at the university, but from a few, very special teachers in mathematics and physics at the small prep school that I attended in the State of Washington, as well as, the academic summer sessions during which time advanced concepts in mathematics and physics were learned while living in Princeton, New Jersey (Hun School), Pennsylvania (Penn State), and Massachusetts (Phillips Academy).
To a considerable degree, my didactic presentations dovetail with that of the primary teachers, but also differ by virtue of my earlier education at the university when my course major of study was engineering. I have been successfully able to draw on all my previous educational experiences and internship teaching of AP calculus and AP physics courses, not simply from the perspective of mathematical computation, but rather from the perspective of useful applications. This method of presentation to both high school and adult, college-level students has demonstrably reinvigorated some once lethargic students into those who anxiously await my next tutorial presentation.
As a life-long learner and keen observer of behavioral psychology, I am fully aware of the different approaches to teaching courses such as AP calculus or AP physics to students who learn differently and assimilate material at different rates. “Eureka Moments”, indeed, do exist and I know fully how to evoke that sought-after response in you.

Differential Equations

I have an extensive background in Differential Equations as a result of my dual major in engineering and applied physics at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I have utilized Differential Equations not only from a mathematical perspective, but also applied differential equations to electrical engineering, physics and other disciplines involving non-static systems such as: engineering dynamics and thermodynamics. The field of Differential Equations can be a fascinating branch of mathematics that combines an individual's math talents into one course. A solid foundation in Differential Equations will allow you, as a student, to appreciate physics, chemistry, and engineering courses from a whole new viewpoint. As a tutor, I believe, Differential Equations are the capstone course for all other pursuits in mathematics and the hard sciences and will allow the student to pursue a myraid of applications ranging from Newton's Law of Cooling, radioactive decay problems used in a bacteria laboratory, computing the lift and drag velocities of a 747 aircraft to the flight path of a fighter plane landing on the deck of a moving aircraft carrier. I will try to provide the student with a mathematical background of Differential Equations plus present a practical application of that knowledge to reinforce the concepts presented.
