I recently retired from a a successful career as an engineer at AT&T. Before AT&T, I went to graduate school at Northwestern (Math Ph.D.) and UT-Austin (Operations Research). I taught math to college students for several years.
Working on an individual basis, it's possible to see where the student is getting stuck and concentrate on that. As much as I like teaching classes, there's limited opportunity to help each and every student. The individual interaction is what I like most about...

Knowledgeable, effective, and willing to go the extra mile!
Matt has helped me with difficult stochastic process concepts. He is thorough and willing to work outside of the lesson to send you material, notes, and his work (either via code or by hand) that will help you better understand the material. I’m thankful to have him as a tutor! Don’t hesitate if you need a solid mathematics tutor (and prior professor).

Very knowledgeable
He is a great tutor and teacher. He knows his stuff and coaxes the thinking out of the student so they truly begin to understand. My son's comment after his first session is that he wished his teacher was this good.

Focused and organized tutoring
There are a lot of great tutors on Wyzant, but some of them have a tendency to go on tangents or try to rely on their experience to have an ad hoc lesson instead of preparing material. This is not the case with Matthew. He is very focused on the topic at hand, and he takes the time to put together well organized lessons. In one lesson, he was unable to help with a problem within the allotted lesson time, and to my surprised, he sent me an incredibly detailed follow up document a day or two later outlining exactly how the problem could be solved and why the solution worked. That he went to that much extra effort to make sure that nothing was left unsolved really impressed me. Few others would take the initiative to do something like that.

Very knowledgable
Helped me out with specific things in R studio for my statistics class. No rushing, and was able to explain what things meant so I was actually learning. Besides programming he explained the motivation behind certain statistical test.

Matt was patient and explained mechanical operations preventing me from fully getting problems correct.
Matt is clearly knowledgeable and definitely precise in setting up problems so that I can clearly grasp the process of approaching problems correctly and following to completion. He is patient.

Really got a lot out of the lesson, conceptually
I was struggling with understanding the different properties of hypothesis testing formulas and Matthew really helped clarify things for me conceptually. He was able to help me see how it all connected and I got a lot of understanding in a very short amount of time.
