I have a PhD. in organic chemistry and I am state-certified teacher. I have taught recitation and lab classes in general chemistry as well as organic chemistry at New York University and York College. I have times in the evenings and weekends to tutor in the New York City area. I have tutored students in basic reading and writing as well as basic math like algebra. I have experience tutoring high school and college students so they are who I plan to tutor. I have worked for several tutoring agencies in the past with being paid from the No Child Left Behind program as well as private funds. I like to find out what a student knows first with a diagnostic test before doing further tutoring. That helps to let us know how many tutoring hours will be needed and the frequency for tutoring needed. I like to be kept up to date as to what subjects the student is currently learning in class and then I can tailor my lessons to the student's needs. This avoids teaching subjects too soon when the student is struggling with an earlier subject. At the end of the tutoring sessions, a test is needed that I will make challenging enough so that the upcoming tests for the student in class will be not very difficult.
This subject is about reading passages and finding meanings of the passages and terms used in the writings. Finding the message given by the writer is very important in this subject.
This subject covers fractions, factoring polynomials, radicals, absolute value functions, quadratic equations, trigonometric functions like sine, cosine, and tangent, basic geometric shapes like circles, parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, rectangles, and prisms, the Pythagorean theorem, proving congruence of shapes, and finding unknown values.
This topic covers the study of atoms, molecules, and ions, aqueous reactions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, chemical bonding, molecular geometries, the properties of solids, liquids, gases, chemical equilibria, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, acid/base reactions, coordination compounds, basic organic compounds.
This topics covers molecules with a carbon chain, molecular orbitals, bonding, alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, stereochemistry, chirality, ring compounds, aromatic compounds, substitution and elimination reactions, chemical equilibria, radical reactions, conjugated alkenes, alcohols, ethers, thiols, amines, amides, alkyl halides, thioethers, ester, ketones, aldehydes, spectroscopy, carbonyl compounds, carboxylic acids, acyl compounds, carbohydrates, and molecules in living systems like proteins.
This covers simple word problems, order of operations, simple geometry, problems with one unknown value.

Very patient. — Samuel is very focused, very attentive, patient and seems concerned. I am thrilled that Samuel is tutoring my son. My son seems to be improving his grade already. Thanks Samuel. ...
