I hold a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Economics and Applied Mathematics from Macalester College, where I graduated cum laude and was selected as one of twelve students for departmental honors. Mathematics has been central to both my academic work and my teaching, from calculus and econometrics through the quantitative methods I used in my own honors research, so I tutor not just from coursework but from years of applying math to real analytical problems.

Most recently I taught AP Calculus BC at HSLA Manhattan, working with high school students preparing for one of the most demanding math courses they will take. There I analyzed student performance to find where comprehension was breaking down and worked with other instructors to improve students' mastery of calculus. Earlier, as an Econometrics Preceptor in Macalester's Economics Department, I supported college students one-on-one through quantitative concepts, statistical analysis, and their own empirical projects. Across these roles I have taught both high school and college-age students, in classroom and individual settings.

My approach centers on building real understanding rather than memorized steps. I break complex topics into their core ideas, ask guiding questions so students stay active in their own reasoning, and adjust pace to each learner. Many students arrive convinced they are not "math people," and in my experience that almost always reflects how they were taught, not their ability. My goal is for every student to leave a session able to solve the next problem on their own, with more confidence than they came in with.

Algebra 2

BA with honors in Economics and Applied Mathematics (Macalester College) and experience teaching high school math, including AP Calculus BC. I specialize in the GED math section — algebra, fractions and ratios, geometry, and word problems — and focus on filling the foundational gaps that make math feel hard. My approach is patient and question-driven, building both skill and confidence with real GED-style practice so students walk into the test prepared.

Brilliant Math Tutor; Knowledgeable, Patient, and Actually Makes It Click

I came to Christine wanting to understand Calculus, particularly limits better, not just get through it. In our first session she made limits feel intuitive, she framed it as the journey of a function rather than just the destination, which honestly changed how I think about limits concepts. She walked me through continuity in a way that finally made the three conditions stick, and broke down the different types of discontinuities clearly with examples that made sense. She's patient, asks the right questions, and explains things in a way that feels natural. I left the session feeling more confident than when I came in. Highly recommended!

Highly Recommended Math Tutor

Christine has been working with my 15-year-old son on math and we are very happy we found her. She is patient and explains things very clearly, but what I appreciate most is that she wants him to really understand the concepts, rather than just memorize how to solve a problem. She quickly understood his level and adapts the lessons depending on what he already knows and what needs more time. My son feels comfortable working with her and, most importantly, he follows her explanations well and enjoys the lessons. After just the first few lessons, we already felt that we would like to continue working with Christine in the long term, with the goal of building a really solid foundation in math and hopefully progressing, over time, to AP Calculus AB level or even beyond!

She was good.

My son understood what she taught but felt her line was breaking up a lot.i hope by next class that will be fixed. Otherwise he liked her approach. Thank you Christine

Knowledgeable and patient teacher

Christine is calm, patient, and knowledgeable, which is very helpful with a difficult subject like Calc BC. Since she was a teacher before, she has reference material and an idea how to teach high schoolers. She provides examples as she teaches. She also very much enjoys the subject, which comes through as she talks through topics.
