Hi!
My name is Matt and I'm very excited at the prospect of working with students at a variety of levels in a variety of subjects.
I am 24 years old and in the last three years have graduated cum laude from Boston University with a BA in English as well as political science, graduated from the University of Chicago with a MA in the humanities (with a focus on literature), and worked as an adjunct writing instructor at Morton Community College where I taught classes that included teenagers, twenty-somethings, and occasionally someone in their late thirties.
My teaching experience at Morton (along with occasional music lessons for friends) has fueled my love for education and desire to not only make students learn what they are taught, but genuinely long to learn more. From my own experience using educational websites such as Khan Academy (where I've been learning, among other subjects, biology, chemistry, physics, geometry, world history, and even cryptography) and memrise.com, where I am working on my Latin, Spanish, and Italian every day, I know how rewarding learning can be when it becomes the foundation of a lifestyle rather than just something done in the confines of a classroom.
My time teaching, along with internships at courts, an Irish publishing house in Dublin, Brown and Miller literary agency in Chicago, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security, and my recent work as a freelance writer for www.suite101.com have sharpened my organizational, analytical, and intellectual skills. Additionally, my leadership experiences, such as my time as president of Boston University's entire student body, have taught me how to communicate effectively with both individuals and groups.
In the end, my downright enthusiasm for learning drives me to constantly seek teaching opportunities, and it is my sincere hope that, for those of you who share my enthusiasm, I will have the opportunity to learn with you.
