I offer a background of teaching one-on-one and large groups of students as a teaching assistant for various universities: University of California, Santa Cruz, Otis College of Art & Design, and Goldsmiths, University of London over the last half-decade. I have an artistic inclination but am more cerebral; I am formally trained in essay writing, editing, using digital media, manual and digital photography. I build webpages and can help with HTML, PHP and design/structural issues. I can also help edit poems.

I graduated with a Ph.D. in Arts & Computational Technology from Goldsmiths, University of London and a Master's Degree in Digital Arts & New Media from University of California, Santa Cruz. I also have a Master's Degree in Writing (Poetry) from Otis College of Art & Design in Los Angeles.

I am very easy to access as I am an avid bicyclist and will never complain about driving/parking or use it as an excuse for being late, since it takes me roughly 5-20 minutes to get within a 6 mile radius of Los Feliz (where I am located.)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

Ever since I embarked on an MFA in writing, I learned a lot more about InDesign through duplicating page structures, layouts, and text/image spacing of futurist poetry. I worked on layouts for my school newspaper as an undergraduate and am currently using InDesign to structure my PhD dissertation for publication. I have tremendous amount of experience in helping others develop their own pages for courses I was a teaching assistant in as well as helping professors with their own books/scholarly articles through InDesign.

C++

The first programming language I ever learned was in C++. I am skilled at teaching people how to make C++ programs because it is a fun, object-driven language. I taught large groups of students how to use C++ for projects they were building before the completion of my Ph.D. in Arts and Computational Technology.

Computer Programming

I have taken several courses in programming unlimited to C++, Processing, Max/MSP/Jitter, PHP and Java. Prior to getting my PhD in Arts and Computational Technology, I worked on a few programs that implemented Max/MSP/Jitter. I have taught students several of these programs and how to make interactive interfaces.

Computer Science

My PhD is from a Computer Science department. I collaborated and worked with a lot of different people from computer science backgrounds. I have experience in C++ and my interests fall into interactive web design and Max/MSP/Jitter, as well as social media platforms.

Drawing

I can teach both pencil and digital drawing. I have over two decades of experience in perspective, shading and composition. I also can convert hand drawings into Illustrator files.

Dreamweaver

I am qualified to tutor students in Dreamweaver. I have both formally and informally taught students how to use Dreamweaver for almost ten years for a variety of projects using this program as the framework.I am skilled in helping show how to navigate its intuitive layout. Many web design and publishing projects I have assisted others with are completed with the aid of Dreamweaver.

Film

I offer a substantial background with using HD film equipment and accessories. I can help create a film using Final Cut Pro and have helped students with a plethora of editing and technical issues related to film. I am also skilled in studio lighting and setting up cameras.

Graphic Design

I have knowledge in teaching and tutoring Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and InDesign. I have created images for both print and digital publications; and can help students in both fields. I also have a PhD in Arts and Computational Technology.

JavaScript

I have experience with teaching and using Java. As I worked teaching assistant courses for PHP and Dreamweaver, I have showed students how Java is best used for interaction. My own site also runs on JavaScript.

Macintosh

I am naturally placed in the role of helping others with their computers as I am highly skilled in using Macintosh. I have owned several MacBook Pros over the course of almost ten years. I have experience troubleshooting and helping others figure out their macs in every university setting I've been in.

Microsoft Outlook

I have a substantial computer background. I can help anyone with email-related issues to Outlook. I constantly used Outlook and understand how to troubleshoot any technical issue related to it.

Microsoft Windows

I am fluent in how Windows operates since I have worked on many projects on the system. I can fix most computer-related issues with Windows. I can also patiently teach anyone how to navigate it.

Music History

I have worked with helping inspire others through various workshops on the foundational aspects of music since I was in high school. As I currently work at the Echo and Echoplex, I have given talks about the history of rock music. I have also showed how music from the past influences current music through audio and video demonstrations as a graduate teaching assistant at UC Santa Cruz. I taught the cultural components of music, as well as famous historical figures.

Photography

I am a skilled and published photographer; and have shot with both manual and digital SLR cameras. I know how to teach students f stops as well as shutter speeds and ASA/ISO settings. I can help show the differences and appropriate settings for certain lighting situations. I can also teach how to use various equipment like lighting and tripods.

PHP

I have experience teaching PHP since 2011 before my completion of a PhD in Arts and Computational Technology. As I am skilled in helping others build webpages and run my own sites using PHP, I am good at using it too. I helped a class of 30 students ranging from simple to more complicated problems.

Study Skills

My role in undertaking groups of 30 to 40 students as a teaching assistant was to help them prepare for their midterms and finals. I am skilled at preparation, memory building and organization. I can help students remember and prepare for information by structuring what is on their tests in an orderly and cohesive way.

Video Production

I use Final Cut Pro and iMovie for big-screen and new media installations. I helped students with transitions, contrast, sound issues and exporting files that run on a projector. I am skilled with editing from most programs and using cameras.

Web Design

I am very qualified and skilled to teach web design. I have been building websites for over ten years. As I completed my PhD in Arts and Computational Technology, I worked on websites to not only display my work, but to interact with it. I have taught digital media courses to large groups of students and instructed them how to create a framework for HTML through PHP.
