I learned the rules very early, but I started playing for fun around Covid in 2020. I became hooked quickly by the game's depth and history, and the competitive side of me pulled me into improving and growing as a player in my free time. At first it was just a game to play on the side, but now it's one of my favorite hobbies and an endless source of challenge and fun.

The Eclectic Teacher- HTML, Python, and Chess!
I learned to play chess in 6th grade. One of the district office leaders offered to teach chess to a small group of students as part of an outreach program he was doing. I was selected and I fell in love with the game. I continued playing casually until high school when one of my math teachers decided to begin a chess club. That began the competitive side of playing for me. After high school I returned to only playing casually, as I found it difficult to find others that wanted to play in my circle of friends at college. As the years went by I played less and less. Then, a few months ago, one of my engineering students asked if I wanted if I wanted to play a game. As soon as the game was over, the spark reignited. Thanks to the internet, I have been obsessed with playing every day since.

No pain no gain, working hard all the way
I find the game fascinating, as a kid I played in scholastic tournaments but honestly, I played very passively not giving much thought to the game and just playing in a way where I wasn't trying to learn or improve
Then fast forward to me randomly hanging out with friends, we saw a mini chess board, and that reminded me of my childhood experiences which got me hooked when I looked at the complexities of chess and how interesting the game can be which has kept me hooked ever since

My father taught me chess when I was young, and I played casually as a way to bond with him. In the past two years, I have taken chess more seriously and studied the game intensively. As a result, I have improved my rating from 1100 to 2100 on Chess.com. I now coach chess to help others learn and enjoy the game.

A Way to Know Yourself and Your Opponent
I learned to play chess when I was 8 years old. The boy across the street taught me. I've taught my Sunday school classes to play chess while we wait for parents to pick up their kids at the end of church service. I love chess, because it's a fun way to be mean and not physically harm anyone. Lately I've been paid to play chess with a math student who needs to focus better.
